Margie Ruth Clarkston

February 11, 1933 — March 17, 2019

Margie Ruth Miller was born February 11, 1933 to John Dowd Miller of Minden, La. and Maggie Ment Matlock from the community of Mott close to Plain Dealing, La. Though she graduated from Bossier High School in 1952, she went to Plain Dealing High for her freshman through junior years and recently reconnect with friends during several 1950s Plain Dealing High School Reunions. Around 1952 while working as a clerk in the Dell Southern Grocery Store in Plain Dealing, she met David Hilton Clarkston. They married on August 29, 1953. She worked at Morris and Dickson in Shreveport in the late 50s, helped David run a restaurant in the Holiday Lanes Bowling Alley in Bossier City from 1974-1976, worked at a Pizza Hut in El Dorado, Ark. in 1977 & 1978. She worked most of her life as a housewife as well maintaining the family garden (early 1980 to present) in Natchitoches. Margie has been a member of the Oak Grove Methodist Church in Natchitoches, La. since 1983.  Served in various committees while being a member. Participated three times a week in exercise classes at the Fellowship Hall. Margie had an adventurous spirit in that at age 72, she went white water rafting in Jamaica and went over a class four rapid in the 1.5 hour trek. She loved to read and would read two to three books a week.  Enjoyed helping others with by giving her time, knowledge, and energy.  An avid gardener and keeper of the family land during her life. She was a loving mother of three sons and two daughter-in-laws: John David Clarkston and wife, Carol, of Houston, Texas; Dennis Hilton Clarkston of Natchitoches, La.; and George Lester Clarkston and wife, Abby, of Houma, La. Also, Margie was a proud grandmother of three grandsons and one granddaughter-in-law: Terry Dwayne Clarkston and James David Clarkston and wife, Destiny, of Greenwood, La.; and William Patrick Clarkston of Houston, Texas. Great-Grandmother to great-granddaughter McKenzie Marie Clarkston of Greenwood, La. and great-grandson Joseph James Clarkston of Shreveport. Survived my her sister, Nerae Haynes and husband, Titus Haynes.                                                                                          She was preceded in death by her husband, David H. Clarkston; her parents, John Dowd Miller and Maggie Ment Matlock; and siblings: Marteal Miller Anderson Murphy and James Miller. Funeral services will be at 1 pm on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Oak Grove Methodist Church in Natchitoches with Bob Lane officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Methodist Cemetery under the direction of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends from 5 pm until 8 pm on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home and again on the 21st from 11 am until service time at Oak Grove Methodist Church.
