Longtime Natchitoches City Marshal, Alton Rachal passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 5th. He was born March 13, 1937 to Eulice and Famie Rachal in Cypress, LA. Alton graduated from Flora High School in 1956. Alton served as a police officer for the City of Natchitoches for 26 years. He later served as Marshal for the City of Natchitoches for 24 years before retiring on December 31, 2014. He was a former member of the Natchitoches Rotary Club and a member of Trinity Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Linda Wagstaff Rachal; sons Thomas Alton Rachal of LaPorte, Jeffery Lynn Rachal and wife Dawn of Provencal, LA; daughter Jennifer Davis of Spanish Lake, LA; step sons Lance Murphy and wife Amy of Mont Belvieu, TX, and Chad Murphy of Zavalla, TX; grandchildren, Michael, Thomas Alton, Jr., Nikki, and Wayne Rachal, Cassie and Caden Davis, M’Lynn, Mason, Morgan and Cooper Murphy; 7 great grandchildren; and a brother, Fred Rachal of Moss Bluff, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eulice and Famie Rachal; brothers, Ray, Mann, and Donald Gene Rachal; sisters, Evonne Rachal, Vada Roge', & Lucille Thorpe; daughter Sherrie Segura; and a granddaughter Jessica Rachal. A visitation, with compliance of public gatherings and social distancing, will be held Saturday, May 9th from 10am – 12 pm at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at Strong Cemetery in Huxley, TX at 4 pm with Don Winn officiating the service. The family would like to thank everyone for the prayers, flowers, food and calls.
