Carole Ann Hunter Carter, 79, passed away on June 22, 2014 in the Women's Center of the Willis-Knighton South Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2014 in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church, Natchitoches. Graveside services will be conducted by Rev. Tommy Rush and Rev. John G. Alleyat 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the Centuries Memorial Cemetery, Shreveport, Louisiana. She was born on June 14, 1935, in Logansport, Louisiana to the union of J. H. and Louis Templin Hunter. Carole was a graduate of Werner Park Elementary School and Fair Park High School in Shreveport. She attended Centenary College and Louisiana Tech University and graduated from Louisiana College with a B.A. in elementary education in 1956. She also earned a Master of Education degree in early childhood education from Northwestern State University. Professionally, she was an elementary school teacher, primarily teaching Kindergarten. She taught in Natchitoches and Rapides parishes in Louisiana and in Cooke and Tarrant counties in Texas, retiring with the Texas Teacher Retirement System. On September 5, 1955, she married James E. Carter who was then pastor of the Wise Memorial Baptist Church, Lena, Louisiana. She served as a pastor's wife there and at the John T. White Baptist Church and University Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas, the Temple Baptist Church, Gainesville, Texas, First Baptist Church, Natchitoches, Louisiana, and during his ministry with the Louisiana Baptist Convention as Executive Assistant to the Executive Director and later as Director of the Church-Minister Relations Division. She is survived by her husband, Dr. James E. Carter of Bermuda, Louisiana, James Craig Carter and wife Roni of Leawood, Kansas, Edward Keith Carter and wife Robin of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Chyrisse Ann Carter Miller and her husband Keith Miller of Austin, Texas. Fourteen grandchildren survive her: Megan Carter Stair and her husband Sean, James Hunter Carter, Rachel Carter, Rebecca Helms, Clair Carter Lovett and her husband Sean, Meredith Carter Conanan and her husband Raldy, Lt. Grant Miller, Lacie Helms, Matthew Miller, Hannah Carter, Thomas Carter, Camille Carter, Caroline Miller, Seth Carter and one great-grandaughter, Francis Lorraine Lovett. She is also survived by her siblings, Jimmy Ruth Hunter Butler and her husband the Hon. Robert Y. Butler and Ted A. Hunter and his wife Martha Hayes Hunter and their children, John Hunter and James Hunter. Pallbearers are her grandsons Lt. Grant Miller, Matthew Miller, Hunter Carter, Thomas Carter and nephews John Hunter and James Hunter. The family expresses grateful appreciation especially to Dr. Destin Black and to the nurses and staff of the Women's Center of Willis-Knighton South Hospital. Memorial donations can be made to the charity of cause of the donor's desire.
