William “Don” McFerrin passed away peacefully in Fresno, California on September 14, 2020 at the age of 87. He was born on November 1, 1932 to Alton H. and Ella B. McFerrin in Marthaville, Louisiana. Don was a graduate of Marthaville High School in 1951. Entering the military that same year, he served 4 years in the Navy. Upon his honorable discharge, he attended and graduated from Northwestern State University with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree. Don continued his education with an MBA from Louisiana State University and a Doctorate from the United States International University in San Diego, California. The highlight of his work career centered on teaching upper division accounting courses at California State University, Fresno. Don specialized in teaching Cost and Intermediate Accounting. Don is survived by his sister, Louise Cox, nieces, Carolyn Borchert, Charlotte Brewster, Lurleen Monteleone, and nephew Alfred Monteleone, and their respective families. The family would like to thank the staff at Sunrise Assisted Living in Fresno for the excellent care they provided Don during his stay with them. Most importantly, they would like to thank Sonja Ledesma of Well Being Senior Solutions in Fresno for the care and companionship she provided along with Steve Wigh for his many years of friendship and care for Don over the past seven years. Arrangements for Don were made with Whitehurst Funeral Home in Fresno and Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Don will be buried at 10am at the Beulah Methodist Church Cemetery in Marthaville on September 25, 2020.
