A Mass of Christian burial for Walter Stewart Meziere, Sr., will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, May 23, 2020, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Isle Brevelle, LA with Father Charles Ray serving as celebrant. Entombment in the St. Augustine Mausoleum will follow the Mass with honors provided by the Natchitoches City Police Department. The family will receive friends from 10 am until 11:30 am on the 23rd at St. Augustine Catholic Church with recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 11:30 am. Walter Stewart Meziere, Sr., was born August 8, 1940 to Lawrence Joshua Meziere and Frances LaCour Meziere in Melrose, La and passed from this life on May 13, 2020, in Alexandria, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Marguerite Roque of Cane River and Thaddeus Meziere of Lancaster, Ca, a son, Walter Stewart Meziere Jr., and a daughter Rosalind Meziere He married his high school sweetheart Allie Wright-Metoyer and had seven children, Walter Stewart Meziere Jr (Chellie) of Lavon, Tx, Rodney Meziere (Becky) of Bayou Derbonne, Rosalind Meziere of Natchitoches, Claudine Metoyer (David) of Ontario, Ca, Judith Lee (Ronald) of Roseland, Tx, Penelope Meziere-Clayton (Jerry) of Claremont, Ca, Jonathan Meziere (Josephine) of Natchitoches. He is survived by 5 children, 27 grandchildren, 31 great-grand-children, siblings Joshua Meziere of Los Angeles, Ca, Thaddeus Meziere of Lancaster, Ca, Charles Meziere of Natchitoches, Jannie LaCour of Natchitoches, Andrew Meziere of Shreveport, and a host of nieces and nephews, and his second wife Madeline. Walter was a hard worker always working multiple jobs to support his family that included share cropper, drove the bookmobile for the library, truck driver, and police officer for the Natchitoches Parish Police Department. He retired from the Natchitoches Police Department with the rank of Sergeant after 27 years of devoted service to his community. He was a member of Magnolia State Peace Officers Association (MSPOA). He was especially proud of his son Jonathan, grandson Brandon Remo, and nephew Lt Billy Meziere who have all chosen to continue his legacy working in public service. Jonathan and Billy are officers on the Natchitoches Police Department and his grandson Brandon Remo is a Deputy Sheriff for the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office. A man of strong faith, he was devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Augustine Catholic Church as well as being a member of Cursillo of Christianity.
