Virginia Davis McLamore

December 20, 1927 — January 15, 2020

Virginia Davis McLamore, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away on Wednesday, January 15th, 2020, at the age of 92. She was born on December 20th, 1927, in Wink, Texas, to Clarence Allen and Lena Mavis (Head) Davis.                After moving to Natchitoches as a young girl, Virginia and her family settled on Behan Street where she made some of her best friends and fondest memories.  She went on to attend Natchitoches High and what is now Northwestern State University.  She was the proud owner of Carter’s Jewelry and later ran an in-home day care where she affectionately became known to everyone as Mamaw.                    Her legacy is one of love and loyalty. Those whom she loved, she did so with her whole heart.  She was full of life lessons from making her bed everyday to always having her hair perfectly rolled and combed.  Her life was lived with purpose and a gratefulness for each day.  She had strength and determination that was unmatched.  When she set her mind to something, you could consider it done.                   Her loves were dancing (which she would be happy to tell you she was the best), cooking for her family and sitting in her swing on warm days. She was known in her later years as Rally Grandma for her famous baseball cheering videos, although she loved everything LSU.  In the end she had the opportunity to ride the crest of the wave of an LSU National Championship all the way to the pearly gates.  We will forever miss her quick wit, beautiful blue eyes, and loving hugs.                She is survived by her long-term companion Charles Ferguson, her daughters Marsha Kay (James) Baker, and Leigh Margaret (David) Lambert.  Her grandchildren Tyler (Leah) Newell, Kristyn (Cody) Berry, Alex Baker, Russell Reynolds, Sarah Kate Reynolds, David Carter and Dana Carter. Her great grandchildren Gabriel Newell, Annabelle Newell, James Russell Newell, and Emerson Berry.   She is preceded in death by her husband John Russell McLamore, her parents Clarence and Mavis Davis, her son Arthur Carter Jr., and her brothers James Clarence Davis and Thomas Allen Davis.                  Visitation will be held at the Blanchard St Denis Funeral Home on Monday, January 20th from 1:30-3:30 with a service to immediately follow.  Burial will be at Memory Lawn Cemetery.
