Telisma Anthony "Tony" Mayeux passed away peacefully on September 12, 2026, with his family by his side, at the age of 89.

Born in Simmesport on March 9, 1937, Tony was the son of Lester Mayeux and Eulalie Aymond Mayeux. He was a graduate of the University of Southwestern Louisiana and went on to build a life marked by devotion to both family and vocation. In 1959, he met the love of his life, Shirley LeBlanc, and they were married on February 24, 1962. Together they began their married life in Gulfport, Mississippi.

Through his career with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Tony and Shirley made their home in several states, including Alabama, Kentucky, and Georgia. In 1980, they moved to Natchitoches when Tony accepted a position managing the National Fish Hatchery. Over the years, he took great pride in his work and in the life he and Shirley built together. They were blessed with four children—Monica, Julie, Michelle, and Christopher—and Tony’s greatest pride remained his family and his career.

Tony was also a man of deep faith. He was a devout Catholic and a longtime parishioner of the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, attaining the distinction of the Third Degree.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley Mayeux; by his parents, Lester and Eulalie Mayeux; and by his siblings, Gerald Mayeux and Bonnie Moreau.

He is survived by his children, Monica Key and her husband Scott, Julie Mayeux, Michelle Brossette and her husband Shane, and Christopher Mayeux and his wife Michelle. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Sara, Kimberly, Carol, Holly, Erica, Stephen, Christopher, William, and Matthew. May his family find comfort in the love they shared with him and in the many memories that will continue to bring him close.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 18, 2026, at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with Rev. Irion St. Romain serving as celebrant. Burial will follow at Memory Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 18, at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 9:30 a.m. that morning in the funeral home chapel.

The family extends special thanks to Shane Brossette, Shawn McNeilly, Dr. Mary Long, Peristyle Memory Care, and Southern Grace Hospice for the care and compassion shown to Tony.
