Thomas "Tom" Houser Matuschka, 83, passed away on October 15, 2026, in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Born on August 2, 1943, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Tom loved good food especially going out to eat, Friday’s with “the lunch bunch”, watching football especially the LSU Tigers, and woodworking in his shop.

Tom earned a bachelor's degree in History from Miami University of Ohio and later received his Juris Doctor from the Louisiana State University Law Center. Following his undergraduate studies, he served as a park ranger at Vicksburg National Military Park, where he made memories he enjoyed sharing. He proudly served his country as an officer in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.

After completing his military service and legal education, Tom practiced law for 35 years, building a respected career as an attorney. He retired from The Travelers in 2008. Outside of his profession, Tom was an accomplished woodworker who found great satisfaction in creating furniture and smaller pieces.

Tom is survived by his sons, Tom Matuschka (Danielle) of Natchitoches and James Matuschka (Callie) of Glenwood Springs, Colorado; his grandchildren, Tom (Maggie), Lucy, Gabe, and Amelia; his great-granddaughter, Arabella; his sister Rebecca Doran (Paul) and his niece Julie Swanson. Tom was preceded in death by his father George Leslie Matuschka and mother Florence Koenig Matuschka as well as his wife Kay Ware Matuschka.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and staff of Natchitoches Regional Medical Center, The Courtyard of Natchitoches, and Hospice of Natchitoches for their compassionate care and support.

In accordance with Tom's wishes, there will be no public service at this time. The family plans a private graveside remembrance in Baton Rouge.
