A Mass of Christian Burial for Terry A. Janes will be held 10 a.m. on Wednesday August 31, 2022 in the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception with Rev. Irion St. Romaine serving as celebrant. Burial will be in Memory Lawn Cemetery Natchitoches, LA under the direction of Blanchard St. Denis funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5pm until 7 pm on Tuesday the 30th at Blanchard-St. Denis. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 6 pm on Tuesday the 30th in the funeral home chapel. Mrs. Janes 94 of Kansas City, MO died August 25, 2022 in Kansas City after a short illness. Terry was born to Sam and Carmeillete Maggio on November 28, 1927 in Natchitoches, LA. Terry was a graduate of St Mary's Academy in 1946; she earned her Bachelor's degree in the spring of 1956 from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. She joined the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) in August of 1956, graduating from the Officer Basic Course at Fort McClellan, AL. on January 25, 1957. After serving 2 years, Terry was discharged as a 1st lieutenant and initially moved to Kansas City in 1958 riding her Harley Davidson all the way. She continued her education at Texas Women’s University, completing a Master of Arts Degree in health, physical education and recreation in 1959. She returned to Kansas City and married Walter Clyde Janes at Immaculate Conception church in Natchitoches in November 1959. She dedicated her life to education, having taught physical education in the Kansas City Public Schools district for 43 years, retiring at 75. She stayed active in the district after retiring and continued her education for enjoyment; taking classes on motorcycle mechanics, wood carving, wood working, poetry, computer science, screen printing and stained glass to name a few. Terry was always looking to learn more. She enjoyed raising her grandson Johnny and spending time on her son John's land. Never one to laud her own accomplishments, she would always speak proudly of the achievements of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family was her life. She is survived include her two sons Mark (Sally) Janes and John Janes; grandchildren Johnny (Alice) Janes, Kelsey Janes, and Sarah (Jesse) LeJeune; and her great grandchildren , Eleanor Janes and Emmett Janes; her sister Sadie Dark, brothers Buddy Maggio and John Maggio. She was preceded in death by her parents Sam and Carmeillete Maggio, and her siblings Rosalie Maggio Fulco, Joe Maggio, Ned Maggio, Jeanette Maggio Gunter, Charlie Maggio, Mary Maggio Willis and Sr. Ann Carmel (Grace) Maggio; and former husband Walter Janes. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Gunter, Kenny Maggio, David Hadden, Greg Giering, Henry Maggio and John Maggio, Jr. Special thanks with much love to niece Michele Todtenbier and nephew Greg Giering for organizing the service.
