Ted Edward Duggan, 91, of Bermuda, LA, and formerly of Alexandria, LA, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2024. He was born in Florien, Louisiana on March 28, 1933 to the late Harvey Cade and Leona Coburn Duggan.
Ted attended Florien High School then Northwestern State College. He was in the College Singers, set an all-time school record in High Jump, was a brother in Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity, and a soldier in the Army ROTC program. He graduated with an Industrial Arts degree and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army.
He married Amelie (Amy) Cloutier in 1957 and was shipped off to serve a tour in Germany and achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant. After serving in the Army, he and Amy finally settled in Alexandria, LA where they were active parishioners in St. Frances Cabrini Parish. He became an Insurance Adjuster for Travelers Insurance Company for over 20 years and retired with them. He and Amy reared 7 children. Upon the death of Amy after 41 years of marriage, Ted moved to Bermuda. LA on Cane River.
He married Vivian Prudhomme Flores in 1999 becoming step-father to her 3 children. Ted and Viv enjoyed traveling. They attended the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception where they delighted in singing in the choir. Not long after they married, Ted began construction on their home overlooking Cane River. They enjoyed many hours sitting on the porch and hosting friends and family. Earlier this year they celebrated 25 happy years of marriage.
Throughout Ted's life, he was an avid gardener. He taught his sons the basics of building. He was a man of great faith and virtue.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Cade and Leona Coburn Duggan, his older sisters and brothers-in-law Elsie (Frank) Risor, Evelyn (Debs) Bell, Rufus Kelly, his first wife Amy Cloutier Duggan, his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Arnold (Viginia LeMeur) Cloutier, Marie (Paul) Legrand, Rev. Wilbur Guy Cloutier Jr., Mary Ethelyn (Ef) Cloutier, his daughter-in-law Patty Martin Duggan, step-daughter Denise Flores Poleman and step-son-in-law Chris Winder.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian Prudhomme Flores Duggan of Bermuda, LA, his younger sister Neva Duggan Kelly of Many, LA, his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Alex (Marilyn Scroggs) Cloutier of Navarre, FL, Keith (Janet Sauve) Cloutier of Richardson, TX, and his children and step-children: Ted (Patty Martin (dec.)) Duggan II of Bermuda, LA, Sam (Marian Kiser) Duggan of Shreveport, LA, Kelli Nugent of Texarkana, TX, Janice (Don) Brewer of Olive Branch, MS, Monica (Jim) Wisenbaker of Grand Cane, LA, Greg (Peggy Scallion) Duggan of Bermuda, LA, Julie (Eric) Kuehler of Dickson, TN, Andrea Flores (Chris (dec.)) Winder of Bermuda, LA, Eugene (Gene) Flores II of Lafayette, LA, and Denise Flores Poleman (dec.).
He has 49 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren
A legacy of 97 descendants as well as a host of nieces and nephews! What a great life he had!
Visitation will be held at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 from 6 pm - 9 pm with the recitation of the Rosary at 6:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for him at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at 1:30 pm with interment to follow at Memory Lawn Cemetery, Hwy 6 Natchitoches, LA. After internment there will be a gathering for the Celebration of His Life, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, in Natchitoches, from 4 pm - 7 pm.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Charles Chapel upkeep fund mail to Carey Blanchard 1490 Hwy 119 Bermuda, LA 71456, to St. Jude Hospital, or to a charity of your choice.
