Tammie Laree “MawMaw” Johnson Brian was born in Sanford, North Carolina and passed away peacefully at her home in Bellwood, Louisiana, on August 7, 2025, at the age of 60.

Born October 6, 1964, Tammie lived a life marked by steadfast faith, service, strength, and devotion to family. She proudly served as a Lance Corporal (E‑3) in the United States Marine Corps from 1982 to 1987, working as a field radio operator. After her honorable service, she devoted 20 years to educating young minds as an elementary school teacher. Upon retirement, she embraced her cherished roles as a wife and full-time “MawMaw.”

She is survived by her beloved husband, James Darrell Brian, and their children Michelle Bridges Rawls (husband Josh) of Marthaville, LA, Courtney Brian Broadway (husband Nelson) of Marthaville, LA, Darrell James Brian (wife Latasha) of Bellwood, LA, James “Robbie” Johnson (wife Jennifer) of Florien, LA, Kenneth “Kenny” Brian (wife Laurie) of Denham Springs, LA, and Karl Brian of Natchez, MS.

Tammie’s greatest joy was her grandchildren: Laden & Anna Rawls; Avery, Brady, Colby & Denly Broadway; Madison & Mason Brian; Aron & Nevaeh Velez; Ragen Christophe; Baylee, Peyten, Kynlee & Layken Johnson; Taylor Brian; Madison Brandenburg; and Kahlie Brian. She also cherished her great-grandchildren: Karter Jace, Baylor Psalm, Truvy Lynn Broadway, and Navy Jude Sparks.

She also leaves behind her sister, Sherri Johnson Watkins (husband Bobby) of Pisgah Forest, NC; her dear aunt, Sandra Desjarlais of Sanford, NC; brothers‑in‑law Bo and David Brian; sister‑in‑law Martha Flathers; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy and Phyllis Johnson; her stepmother, Catherine Johnson; her grandparents, JD and Margaret Johnson; her parents‑in‑law, Charles E. Brian and Clifton and Peggy Brian Lindsey; and her sister, Tammy Jackson Berg.

To know Tammie was to be loved deeply. She held her titles as Mama, Mama T, and MawMaw close to her heart—raising four teenagers alongside Darrell in a testament to her endless love and dedication. Always ready with a hug, a kiss, and a Diet Coke, she never let you leave without saying “I love you more.” Her cherished phrases—“I ain’t lying,” “I love you more,” and “No matter what”—will echo in the hearts of her family forever.

She delighted in life’s simple joys: motorcycle rides with the love of her life, trips to the nail salon with her girls, spoiling her grandbabies, and sharing her faith. Above all, she loved the Lord with all her heart—one of her proudest moments was leading her daddy to the Lord’s salvation before his passing in December of 2024.

Tammie’s life was a testament to unconditional love, unwavering faith, and strength beyond measure. She never met a stranger—if she knew you, she loved you. She will be remembered always and missed forever.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2 pm on Monday August 11, 2025 at Provençal United Pentecostal Church with Pastor Paul Grace officiating.  Interment with military honors will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery in Bellwood, LA.  The family will receive friends from 10 am until service time on Monday at Provençal UPC.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Laden Rawls, Brady Broadway, Colby Broadway, Aron Velez, Noah Carmadelle, Talan Durr,  Benji Kilgore.  Honorary pallbearers will be Denly Jude Broadway and Navy Jude Sparks.
