She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth L. Shaw, by her parents Thomas G. Mathis and Lula Mae Humphrey Mathis, her step-mother Julie C. Mathis Montagne, her son Kevin L. Shaw, here brother Tommy Mathis, her granddaughter Kayla Shaw and Her brother-in-law Dorwayne Glover.
She is survived by her daughter Brenda St. Andre, her son Mark Shaw (Kathy), her sister Janice Rose Glover, her sister-in-law Ellen Mathis, her grandsons Brian St. Andre (Brandi), Corey Shaw (Jill), Christopher Shaw (Virginia), her granddaughters Michaela Stanberry (Todd), Mayghen Grayson (John), her great-grandsons James David Almond (Megan), Jake St. Andre (Mia), Mathis Stanberry, Peyton Rains, Weston Rains, John Aaron Grayson, Ryan Shaw and Oscar Johnston, her great-granddaughters Quinn Stanberry, Violet Shaw, Nicole Shaw and Evelyn Johnston and a host of nieces and nephews and by the George A. She was Mom, Grandma Sue, Sue-Sue or Mamaw. She loved, loved her family and made everyone--children and spouses, grandchildren and their spouses, great-grandchildren beautiful hand-stitched, sequined and personalized Christmas stockings. She was a skillful seamstress but only as a hobby fashioning beautiful clothing and drapes, re-covering sofas and chairs, or making cross-stitched ornaments (Chrismon) sets that she gifted. She was still sewing at 97.
She was an avid gardener and one of the best cooks ever! She made sure her grandchildren and great-grandchildren had special dishes to eat. Sue was all about family. To eat at her table was a blessing for sure!
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Natchitoches for over 60 years and a charter member of the Camille Detloff Women's Circle there. She moved her letter to Noel Memorial United Methodist Church after moving to Shreveport.
Visitation will be held at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home on Friday, July 24, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM followed by the funeral service at 11:00 officiated by the Reverend Dr. Max Zehner, Pastor of Noel Memorial United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Memory Lawn Cemetery in Natchitoches, LA.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are her grandsons and great-grandsons.
Special thanks to her long-time sitter Brenda Walker who mom loved dearly and also to Kurston (Kate) Griffin and Viola Green for the care they gave mom. And thanks to all the staff at Azalea Estates for their kindness and good care while she lived there.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Mom's memory be made to The Methodist Children's Home in Ruston, LA, First United Methodist Natchitoches, LA, or Noel Memorial United Methodist Church, Shreveport, LA.
