He attended St Mary’s high school where he was a stellar athlete. He was a member of the US armed forces in World War II where he fought in the Pacific conflict. He returned to Louisiana and married Myrtle. They had two children, Kaye and Billy. His children were the love of his life. Billy passed away at the young age of 61. Kaye has cared for Sam for the last twenty years of his life. The family is extremely grateful for all of the love and support Kaye and her family provided to Sam. Sam was the last in his family to pass away. His older brothers Malick and Joe died many years ago, and he lost his parents Tony and Hatoun Salim in the 1970’s. Sam never left his mother’s side until the day of her death. A memorial service to honor Sam's life will be held at a later date.
