Richard Lawrence “Dickie” Prudhomme was born on October 9, 1944, in Natchitoches, Louisiana, and departed this world peacefully on August 1, 2026, in Alexandria, Louisiana at the age of 81.

Dickie was the beloved husband of Jennifer Prudhomme. His memory and legacy continue through his daughters, Nicole Sonnier (Micah) and Tiffany Prudhomme, and his step-sons, Jason Noel and Jeff Noel, Sr. He took great pride in his grandchildren Haylyn Sonnier, Jeffery Noel, Jr., Matthew Noel, Grayson Noel, and Quinn Noel each of whom reflects his gentle spirit and zest for life. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, all of whom Dickie held dear and lovingly remembered throughout his life.

Dickie's family also includes his loving sisters, Rose Menou (Mike), Deborah Powell, and Doris Bowden, and his brothers, Tedd Prudhomme (Lorna) and Danny Prudhomme (Sandy). He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Sidney Prudhomme, Sr., his mother, Angvie Edwards Prudhomme, his brother, Charles Sydney Prudhomme Jr., and his sister, Betty Smith.

Dickie’s spirit of service guided much of his journey. As a proud veteran of the United States Navy, he served his country honorably in Vietnam, embodying values of courage and commitment that extended throughout his life.

Dickie’s enthusiasm for life could also be found in his love for sports. Whether participating himself or supporting others, he found great enjoyment and camaraderie in athletic pursuits, which provided joy and opportunities to forge meaningful friendships over the years. Beyond his cherished family, Dickie will be remembered for his significant contributions to youth sports. He found great joy and fulfillment umpiring baseball and softball games at both the high school and collegiate level. Dickie also officiated volleyball matches, sharing his knowledge and supporting countless young athletes over the years. His commitment to these activities spoke volumes about his character and genuine love for fostering sportsmanship in others.

As Dickie’s loved ones mourn his passing, they also celebrate a life well-lived, one dedicated to family and friendships. Dickie’s warmth and integrity touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Catholic Vigil service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at Blanchard-St. Denis with Rev. Jose Pallipurath officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until service time on August 8th at Blanchard-St. Denis. Dickie will be laid to rest at St. Augustine Catholic Church Mausoleum following the funeral.
