Rev. Wayne Hicks

January 17, 1938 — October 7, 2021

Rev. Kerren Wayne Hicks, age 83, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, to gain eternal life on October 7th, 2021. He was born on January 17, 1938 in Natchitoches, LA to the late Andrew and Estelle Hicks. He grew up in Jamestown, LA and graduated from Jamestown High in 1955. He joined the U.S. Navy right after in 1956. He proudly served his country for 4 years, honorably discharged in 1960. While serving his country, he met and married the love of his life of 63 ½ years, Grace Dado Hicks. They would have celebrated their 64th year on December 7th, this year. He was an avid golfer and bowler in his younger years. Wayne became an electrician by trade after the Navy and lived in Virginia and Ohio, before moving back to Louisiana in 1980, as his final home. Wayne is also Northwestern State University alumni, where he received his degree in Recreation Management. He was a staple in the Natchitoches community. Known by most as Wayne or Bro. Wayne, he was also called to serve his Heavenly Father, as a Southern Baptist preacher for over 45 years and graduating from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Rev. Wayne ministered at many churches throughout Natchitoches Parish with the last church being at Grand Ecore Road Baptist Church in Natchitoches, LA. He was there for 18 ½ years, before he retired in 2020. Those who knew him, knew that he loved his Lord and that he was devoted to his family and did anything for them. His final act of love for his wife was bringing her to Ohio to see her siblings. He touched so many lives; many looked forward to his daily scriptures on Facebook as he also enjoyed sharing the Word of God with others. Wayne fought so hard to stay here with his Earthly family and overcame many health issues, but his God wanted him back. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sons, David Hicks and Derrick Hicks Amoriko, his brothers, Jimmy Hicks and Byrl Hicks, and his only sister, Edith Nell Clemons. Wayne leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife, Grace Dado Hicks, his daughter Regina Hartley (Bill Hartley); 4 granddaughters, Michelle Hicks (Nick Longden), Robyn Coutee, Allison Mckneely (Alex Daigle); and Rosalee Amoriko; 8 great grandchildren, Marisela Coutee, Gabriel Coutee, Joshua Pearrie Jr., Kylie Longden, Nadia Foshee, Layla Foshee, Bryce Longden, Destiny Jones, and 1 great-great-granddaughter, Naomi Coutee. He also leaves behind many nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws and friends throughout Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Ohio. He will be deeply missed. A service to honor his life will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Calvary Baptist Church in Natchitoches. Burial will follow at Calvary Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 pm until 8 pm on Friday, October 22nd at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home and again on the day of the service from 11 am until 1 pm at Calvary Baptist Church.
