A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Reba Gongre at 11:30 am on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at the Minor Bascilica of the Immaculate Conception with Rev. Blake DeShautelle officiating. Internment will follow at Emmanuel Cemetery in Chopin, LA under the direction of Blanchard St. Denis. Visitation will begin on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at 9:00am until 11:00am with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 10:30am in the chapel at Blanchard St. Denis. Mrs. Gongre, 90, was a resident of Natchitoches. She passed away on August 31, 2020 at Natchitoches Regional Medical Center. She was born on December 20, 1929 to Almond and Azlie Troquille in Cloutierville, LA. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Donald Gongre, her parents, four sisters, Mildred Vercher, Agnes Bynog, Ada Troquille and twin sister Rita Moser, three brothers, Artis Troquille, John Freeman Troquille, and Jimmy Ray Troquille, son-in-law Cecil Odom, Jr., and niece Stella Crowley. Reba was a member of Immaculate Conception Church (MBIC) and the Catholic Daughter Court Regina Pacis, #1372. She enjoyed bird watching, playing bingo and reading romance novels. Three times of day she was not to be disturbed was during The Price Is Right, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She valued her family and selflessly gave so much of her life to making sure everyone was well taken care of. No one ever left her home hungry or unloved. She will forever be remembered for her class and sass, her faithfulness and love and her kindness and compassion. Those left to treasure her memory are one sister, Annie Mae Kerry of Leesville, LA, six children, Randy and wife Annette of Goose Creek, SC, Emelda Odom of Natchitoches, Daniel and wife Sherri, Darrell and Linda and Delbert, all of Provencal, Denis and Rachel of Middleburg, FL, grandchildren, David and wife Corey, Dustin Gongre, Randi Spencer and husband Rodger, Aaron Odom and wife Jessica, Jessica Odom, Alyssa Odom, Lindsey Flynt and husband Jeremy, Bo Gongre, Michael Gongre and niece Bernadine Stewart. She was blessed with 14 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers include Aaron Odom, Dustin Gongre, Bo Gongre, Michael Gongre, Shannon Warren and Jeremy Flynt. Honorary Pallbearers are Charles Brian, Andrew Odom, Kirby Moreau, Devin Gongre and George Posey. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Minor Bascilica of the Immaculate Conception or by sending flowers to someone as an act of kindness. The family would like to express their thanks to all those who had a hand in caring for their precious matriarch.
