Phillip Lloyd Gillis, age 53, died on Thursday, April 29th 2021 in Natchitoches, LA. He is preceded in death by his father, Wiley Benjamin Gillis Sr. Phillip is survived by his wife, Oona Zbitkovskis Gillis, his daughter, Olivia Gillis, his mother, Barbara Gillis, his brother, Ben Gillis, sister-in-law, Angie Hsiung Gillis, sons, Andrew Benjamin and John Paul; his mother-in-law, Laura Johnson, his sister-in-law, Rebekah French, husband, Ryan French, sons Michael, Jacob, Zak, and Chase and brother-in-law, Zak Johnson. Phillip was born on March 13th 1968 in Del Rio, Texas to parents Wiley Benjamin Gillis and Barbara Gillis. He received both a BA and MA from Northwestern State University and has worked in the field of Computer Programming for over 25 years. Phillip was currently employed by his alma mater as Associate Director of Academic Services. Phillip was a loyal friend and a loving husband and father. He was an intelligent, active man who was deeply involved in numerous and ongoing creative and entrepreneurial endeavors; however, his first love was music. Phillip began with the violin but quickly found his true passion in the guitar. Although it remained his primary instrument, he was able to create music with any instrument he touched. He made lifelong friends throughout his musical career and was a member/leader of many projects. His family and friends will always remember him as a gentle, kind man, who loved animals, had an incredible sense of humor, and a sharp wit. A memorial service is scheduled for May 29th, 2021 at the home of Ryan and Bekah French at 1615 Williams Avenue Natchitoches, LA 71457. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Phillip’s life. The family would like to thank everyone for their love and support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, a College/Travel Fund has been set up for Phillip’s daughter Olivia Gillis.
