Norman Ray Norsworthy

January 14, 1935 — September 30, 2020

Home going services to honor Norman’s life will be held at 10 am on Monday, October 5, 2020 in the chapel of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches. Burial will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery in Bellwood. The family will receive friends from 8:30 am until service time on the 5th. Norman Ray Norsworthy passed away on September 30, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born at home in Lotus, Louisiana to Jeff and Orean Norsworthy on January 14, 1935 and was raised in the country with his two sisters, LaVerne and Gwen and two brothers, Douglas and Gervais. Norman was a long-time member and Deacon of Westside Baptist Church in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He was a God-loving man who prayed daily for the safety and well-being of his loving wife, Sue, and their four children-Tad, Alan, Marla, and Dana. Norman was a devoted family man who showered his family with love and affection in countless ways. He particularly enjoyed the special occasions and holidays that brought his large family together. He could be seen sitting back with a smile on his face (often with his hearing-aids secretly turned off) watching his great-grandchildren playing around him. He enjoyed socializing with the many friends and acquaintances he has obtained throughout his life. He had a contagious smile, a heartwarming laugh, and a special twinkle in his eye. He started out as a sheet metal worker but was then introduced to plumbing. He became a Master Plumber and co-owner of M.F. Rutledge Plumbing. Many have called him “the best plumber in town”. After 40 years as a plumber, he retired but kept himself busy enjoying time with his family, traveling with his wife, spending time at the camp, woodworking, and working in his yard. Norman was a much loved and respected man of integrity with a strong work ethic and a passion for the outdoors. Whether he was at home or at “the camp”, he could usually be found working outside. He was known as a great man by many, but the ones he loved the most know him as “daddy” and “pawpaw”. For them, the void he leaves behind will never be filled but his memory will forever be cherished. Norman is preceded in death by his parents - Jeff and Orean Norsworthy, and his brothers - Douglas Norsworthy and Gervais Norsworthy and his grandson- Justin Jackson. He leaves behind his wife of 63 years - Sue Norsworthy, their sons – Tad Norsworthy and Alan Norsworthy (with his wife Meloney), their daughters Marla McDonald (with her husband Keith) and Dana Norsworthy, as well as his “Brother of the heart” cousin -Raymond Boswell. He also leaves behind 9 grandchildren – Brandon Norsworthy, Trish McGee, Cherie Eason, Ashley Wilhite, Brittany Taylor, Justin McDonald, Logan Norsworthy, Shanna Gilcrease, and Dillon Norsworthy, 20 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Pall Bearers- Alan Norsworthy, Brandon Norsworthy, Logan Norsworthy, Dillon Norsworthy, Justin McDonald, and Greg Eason Honorary Pall Bearers- Tad Norsworthy, Raymond Boswell, ‘Doc’ Wetherington, and Buddy McCollough In lieu of flowers the family asks donations in Norman's memory be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105 or Shriners Hospitals for Children — Shreveport at 3100 Samford Ave, Shreveport, LA 71103. *Graveside services will be held at Shady Grove Cemetery in Bellwood, La immediately following the “Home Going” service. Per his request, he will be laid to rest near the fence, so that in his own words “In case I want to get out of here, I can just jump the fence”.
