Ms. Jackie Horton

March 11, 1927 — June 24, 2021

Funeral services for “Ms. Jackie” Horton will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches with Bro. Robert Lane officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until service time on Saturday the 26th at Blanchard-St. Denis. Helen Lucille Horton, 94 years of age and a resident of Natchitoches was born to John Thomas Dowling and Della Mattie Trout on March 11, 1927 in Ashdown, Arkansas. On Thursday, June 24, 2021 the Lord called another beautiful angel home. At the young age of 94, Helen underwent a hip replacement, and was a real inspiration to others as she went through the 8-week process of healing and rehab. Despite her positive attitude during her healing, her lungs had trouble recovering after surgery. She was a true blessing to all that knew her, known for always having a smile and kind words to offer to anyone she met. Most everyone will remember her as “Ms. Jackie”, Representative, Jimmy Long’s right-hand woman and secretary of over 30 years. Throughout the years she helped so many people obtain their goals in life, it was often said that nobody ever forgot what she did for them. In her later years she was a blessing and a comfort to many at the Courtyard nursing home. Ms. Jackie loved people. She was never one to stay in her room, she was lovingly called their official greeter by her friends. She never met a stranger. Often, Ms. Jackie and several of her friends solved the problems of the world daily around their table while eating cheese puffs and drinking cokes. Never missing someone who probably needed a smile and cheerful word. She loved the hugs and kisses from the employees of the Courtyard. She was the type of woman that if she was cranky, you knew, there was something seriously wrong that needed to be checked on, then she was back to her beautiful smiling self. She was actually the true epitome of what a Christian lady should be. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 50 years, George Horton, Sr., 1 great grandchild, all of her siblings, and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by her children, George Horton, Jr., and his wife Tammy, Cheryl H. LaCour and her husband Jerry; grandchild, Brandon Horton and his wife Melissa, step-grandchildren, Jody LaCour and his wife Christal, Kelly Davis and her husband Clyde, Landon LaCour and his wife Sarah, and Angela Speir; 9 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Her family would like to thank all the caring doctors especially Dr. Michelle Mayeux, and Dr. Chris Ingram, nurses, respiratory therapist, physical therapist, and CNA’s who lovingly helped our mother in all of her different times of need.
