Mildred Louise Eckhardt McTyre

March 26, 1935 — January 4, 2022

Mildred Louise Eckhardt McTyre went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday January 4, 2022. She is survived by her 3 children – Sharron Snapp (husband John), Debra McCall (husband Clark) and Steve McTyre (wife Marcia). Mildred has 7 grandchildren and 2 great granddaughters – Emily and Nathaniel Snapp, Ryan and his daughter, Sawyer Jamie McCall, Kylee McCall, Whitney McCall Hierro (husband Greg), Sean and Megan McTyre and her daughter, Dallas Duyck. Mildred was born in Winnsboro, LA to Edna and Willard Eckhardt on March 26, 1935. She was raised in Winnsboro, where she graduated from Franklin Parish High School and then went on to Northwestern State College in Natchitoches where she received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree. Mildred and John were married 63 years until he passed in May 2020. They lived in many areas of the United States but settled in Florida in 1976 and stayed there until 2005, when they moved to Natchitoches. After graduation from Northwestern, Mildred married John McTyre and they began their family. They moved to Fayetteville, AR; New Orleans, and then to the west coast, living in Washington, Oregon and California. Her professional career began as a special needs teacher in Huntsville, AL, continued in Damascus, MD and then Palm Beach County, FL. Her love of the special need’s population extended to the church, where she led a Sunday School class and a Girl Scout troop. Mildred always remembered that home was in Louisiana and returned to spend time in the summer in Natchitoches visiting family and friends. Mildred will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed sitting on her back porch overlooking the Cane River, shopping and getting coffee with her daughters and granddaughters, sharing meals with friends, volunteering, sewing, crafting, and spending time and traveling with her grandchildren. Mildred and John took many trips in their Airstream trailer throughout the US and other countries. Mildred was a member of the First Baptist Church of Natchitoches, P.O.E. International, The Order of the Easter Star, the Lions Club, and a member of the Tri Sigma Sorority. Her family will receive friends at First Baptist Church of Natchitoches on January 29, 2022 at 10 AM. A Memorial Service for John and Mildred will begin at 11 AM. Burial will follow at American Cemetery. Pastor Tommy Rush will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials for Mildred be made in her name to First Baptist Church of Natchitoches Building Fund or the NSU Foundation.
