Mike McQueen

April 14, 1969 — December 10, 2019

A service to celebrate the life of Mike McQueen will be at 11 am on Saturday, December 14, 2019, at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy McDonald officiating.  Burial will follow at Coldwater Baptist Church Cemetery in Hagewood, LA.  The family will receive friends from 9 am until service time on the 14th at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home. Michael Lane McQueen, 50 years of age and a resident of Allen, TX passed away on December 10, 2019, at his residence surrounded by his family and friends.  He was born on April 14, 1969, to Leon and Nell Long McQueen in Natchitoches, LA.  He was preceded in death by his mother. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Noelle McQueen; father, Leon McQueen; brother, Steve McQueen and wife Cindy; step children he raised as his own, Christopher Leon and wife Ashlee and Dylan  Castillo and wife  Chel; 4 grandchildren; and two nephews, Britton and Ragan McQueen. Mike was a graduate of Natchitoches Central and attended NSU before earning a degree with honors from The Art Institute of Dallas in music and video business.  Mike was a skilled artist in many different mediums.  From painting, drawing, and woodworking, his ability to create phenomenal art was unparalleled.  He was an excellent musician with many different instruments but especially enjoyed composing on his guitar.  He rarely left his house without his favorite guitars.  He enjoyed fishing and entertaining friends and family.  Through the many years of entertaining family and friends, he became an excellent cook and enjoyed grilling for all his guests.  Mike was a Sr. Architect for Capis Capital Institutional Services, Inc. and was an accomplished software engineer specializing in database programming.  The relationships Mike made with his co-workers, some of whom he humbly mentored, were a cherished part of his life.  Although he was with us briefly, his impact on everyone he met will be a great legacy that will not soon be forgotten.  Mike, in his final days, expressed a desire to create a means to help kids who are interested in music/guitar but who may not have the means and/or parental support to cultivate and encourage their talent.  Per Mike's wishes, we have established a scholarship in his memory to help pay the tuition for young people who cannot afford to take music lessons and give them the opportunity to learn what Mike always knew:  that music has its own power to open doors to a whole other world and that it is a gift that they can carry with them their whole life.  Please visit http://www.northwesternstatealumni.com/donations/make-a-gift/ to make donations and under comments include:  Michael McQueen Music Scholarship. The family wishes to give a special thanks to his employer, Capis Capital Institutional Services, Inc., who treated us like family during Mike’s illness.  Your kindness, compassion understanding will always is appreciated because it allowed him the time to focus on his fight against cancer.  And to all that kept in touch over the years, including relationships from being a member of Kappa Alpha Order Fraternity and to all the family and friends Mike made an impression on, thank you for your prayers and support as well as the caring staff of Solaris Hospice, especially Neal Livingston, for the care and compassion shown during such a difficult time.
