Maxine Bryant Slater

A graveside service for Maxine Bryant Slater will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at Central Baptist Church Cemetery in Robeline, Louisiana with Dr. Roy Cook and Dr. Ira Campbell officiating. Maxine Bryant Slater was born to Mearl Daniels Bryant Withers and Lehman Bryant and lovingly raised by her mother, Mearl Withers, and Granny Mattie Daniels Mays. She was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life O.A. “Buddy” Slater Jr., and beloved grandson Brian Timothy Hardy.Also predeceasing her were half brothers Doyle Wayne Withers, James David Withers, and sister Shirley Delane Isgitt. She is survived by her daughters Deborah Kaye Hardy (fiancé Roger Chapman), Donna Slater Horn, grandson Christopher Michael Hardy (wife Raylie McDonald Hardy), granddaughter Andrea Paige Horn and great granddaughters McKenna Paige Hardy and Sibley Katheryn Hardy. She is also survived by half sister Paula Yvette Behan. Maxine Slater was born February 25, 1930 and following a difficult childhood, she made it her life’s goal to have a Christian home that loved and followed the Lord. She attained her cosmetology license upon graduation from high school and enjoyed it as a hobby most of her life. On May 5, 1951, she married her sweetheart, O.A. “Buddy” Slater of Robeline. Maxine was known for her beauty, love and devotion to her family, and her kind and gentle touch. She loved her grandchildren dearly and truly they were her greatest joy. She delighted in all kinds of nature – flowers, birds and all creatures. Maxine had an amazing green thumb and always enjoyed her bougainvillea and roses that seemed to thrive effortlessly in her care. In her younger years, she loved fishing and enjoyed many hours on the lakes with family and friends. She and her husband Buddy enjoyed traveling and made many wonderful trips over the years, including their favorites, the Teton Mountains and Yellowstone National Park. Maxine treasured her dear friends at Grace New Testament Baptist Church. These ladies showed unconditional love and support over many (55+) years and were true sisters in Christ. Pallbearers will be Matthew Axsom, Roger Chapman, Lynn Estes Jr., Bill Morrison, William Morrison, and Merlin Squyres. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Louisiana Children’s Home, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Clara Springs Camp or to a charity of your choice.
