Mary Armeline Broussard passed away Sunday, September 6, 2026, in Natchitoches, Louisiana, after an extended illness. Born February 20, 1942, in Natchitoches, and raised in Campti, Louisiana, she moved to Natchitoches as a young adult. She was the daughter of Gustave Lastie Broussard and Lea O’Connor Sompayrac.

Mary was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where she was an active member for many years. She was employed by City Bank & Trust Co. for over 40 years. While she was a trusted teller, Mary was also known for her frequent pranks she pulled on her co-workers. She was an avid card player as she and her sister, Daisy, would play for hours on end. Mary also loved playing Bingo, as she would be regularly seen at the KC hall on Wednesday evenings.

Beyond her passion for game playing, for many years, Mary graciously hosted Natchitoches Christmas Festival gatherings at her Jefferson Street home on Cane River. Her kitchen was always filled with the smell of gumbo, red beans & rice, and other Cajun specialties that were served to any festival goers who happened to stop by for a visit. Her nieces and nephews, and later great nieces and nephews, would spend hours sliding down the river bank behind her home on cardboard box sleds and trying to avoid going into the cold Cane River waters!

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her brothers, Arnold Augustine Broussard, Gus O’Connor “Happy” Broussard, Albert Tate Broussard and her sister, Penny Lea Broussard Cox.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Daisy Virginia Broussard Evans of Natchitoches.

She was a beloved aunt to her nieces and nephews who called her “Aunt Mae-Mae”. They are Mark Evans (Teresa); Steven Evans (Becky); Susan Adams (Charles); Celeste Goins (Mike); Glenn Cox (Connie); Kevin Cox; Brian Cox (Roseanna); and Jason Cox (Andrea). She was also loved by her many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, September 19, from 9:00 – 10:00AM at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches followed by a Mass, officiated by Fr. Louis Sklar, at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Campti, Louisiana, at 11:00AM. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the “Building Fund” of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 119 Tally Street, Campti, Louisiana 71411, or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
