Lillian Babers Cocherl

August 11, 1931 — March 24, 2024

Natchitoches

In John 14:31 Jesus declared, " When I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to Myself, that where I am you may be also". He did so for Lillian Babers Cocherl on the morning of March 24, 2024.

Lillian, born August 11, 1931, was preceded in death by her husband, William Lee Cocherl;  parents Alfred and Mary Babers, daughter Susan Gayle, son John William, sisters Elma Simmons, Margaret Hebert, Frances Larsen, Clara Christen, and Johnnie Ruth Thomas.

She is survived by her daughter Deborah Lee Cocherl Garner, several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins, and Latisha Simone Moore of Trenton, NJ, a daughter of her heart whom she met at eleven years old.

Lillian graduated from Coushatta High School, from Ashland University, Ashland, Ohio with a degree in Elementary Education, and classes from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, N J in order to teach Special Education. She taught school in Ohio and New Jersey.  She married William Cocherl July 20, 1950 and together started their family that was so very dear to their hearts.

At her previous Church, St. Georges Episcopal Church in Helmeta NJ, she took classes in Christ's healing ministry, showing us His vision for all Christians, received gifts of the Holy Spirit according to I Corinthian Chapter 12 for the good of the Church, all of the class received the gift of tongues as well. She became a member of the International Interdenominational Order of Saint Luke the Physician of which she belonged until her death. OSL was instrumental in thepockets of renewal which spread across America during that time. We were so blessed to be included, which enriched our lives in Christ.

In 1993 she and William retired to Natchitoches, and became active members of Trinity Episcopal Church. She served on Altar Guild for many years, was a member of a prayer group, member of Saint Claire of Assisi Chapter of the Order of Daughters of the King, a world wide ministry of prayer, service, and evangelism, and was a member of Trinity Needle Pointers, helping to make kneelers for the Altar rail. She was also a member of Natchitoches Regional Medical Center Auxillary for over 12 years serving as a Pink Lady. Health problems concluded all of her activities, and she became house bound.

A celebration of her life will be held at 10 am on April 20, 2024 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 533 Second Street, Natchitoches, LA with Reverend Peggy Scott officiating. An interment service will be held on Wednesday, April 3rd at Springville Cemetery, Route 71, Coushatta, LA.
