Leon L. Simmons, Jr., born on April 19, 1933, in Fort Jessup, Louisiana, passed away on May 24, 2025, in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He lived a life marked by dedication and hard work, spending many years with Boise Cascade. He was affectionately known as "Buddy" or "Bo-Bo" to his family and friends.
Leon is survived by his younger sister, Betty J. Simmons Lawrence. He leaves behind a cherished family including nieces LuAnn Brown, Victoria Robles, and Connie Jackson; nephew Lonny A. George; and sister-in-law Laverne Simmons. Their lives were enriched by Leon’s presence, as well as by the love and joy shared with numerous great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and many cousins and friends who will remember him fondly.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Leon L. Simmons, Sr. and Lucille Sparks Simmons, who instilled in him values that guided his life. He was also preceded by an infant older sister, Dorothy Mae Simmons; younger sister Chlotilde Simmons Jackson; younger brother Billy J. Simmons; nephew Albert S. George, III and niece Cassandra George Tidwell, whose memories remain close to the hearts of his family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 31, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Warren Cemetery located at 4598 Warren Church Road, Many, Louisiana, 71449. This gathering will honor Leon's life and the impact he had on those around him, inviting family and friends to come together to celebrate his legacy. Burial will occur on Friday, May 30, 2025 at 10:00 am at Warren Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Leon's name may be made to Warren Cemetery Maintenance Fund, 25 Old Barn Road, Many, LA 71449 or to Hospice of Natchitoches, 340 2nd St, Natchitoches, LA 71457.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff at Natchitoches Community Care and Hospice of Natcitoches for the exceptional care they gave him.
