Our mother, grandmother, friend and prayer warrior, Juanita Howell, is no longer with us on this earth. Her passing has brought sadness to all who knew her. She has cherished her children and grandchildren since the day they were born. She also kept and raised a whole slew of kids who knew her as Momma Howell and Miss Juanita. She was Mawmaw to a lot of people besides her grandchildren. Never was there a day in our lives that we questioned her love for us. Never was there a day that we did not feel like her pride and joy. She attended just about every ballgame, school play or any other function that her kids and grandkids participated in. Our mom was a stay-at-home mom for most of our lives, keeping children, until our dad passed away. As children we always knew that someone was caring for our home, cooking dinner, and waiting for us with an after school snack. We cannot begin to count the sacrifices she made to ensure we could have all that we needed. She also made sure we were raised in the church and knew the Lord. She prayed for all of us daily. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church for 50 years and taught Sunday School for 42 of those years. She also worked in AWANA and Bible School until she was not able. Her passion was children. She also served on just about any committee there was through the years. And she loved to sing in the choir. She demonstrated the love of Christ in her daily walk. She was born on August 19, 1937 to Marshall Elmer Rhodes and Clara “Virginia” Byrd Rhodes in Vowells Mill, Louisiana. She is survived by two sons and a daughter; Greg Howell (Paula), Gary Howell (Susan Clark), Lisa Howell Methvin (Karlton) all of Natchitoches. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Tricia Nelson (Cody), Joshua Howell (Nikki), Aimee Fitzhugh (Matt), Amber Howell, Alicia Angelle (Caleb), Brett Mayeaux (Rachel), John William Methvin (Ashleigh), Maggie Methvin and Makenzie Methvin. Also survived by Amanda Wright (Landon), Myron Scott Clark (Jayne Ann), Tyler Morris (Meredith) and Jace Morris. She is survived by her great grandchildren; Matson and Adrian Nelson, Hoyt and Wyatt Howell, Zander and Zoie Coleman and Matalyn Kate Fitzhugh, Jaxon, Greyson and Sutton Angelle, Kate, Anna and Ryan Mayeaux, Violet Ann Methvin. Also survived by Cody Morris, Alexis Stalsby, Emma Clark, Katie Clark, Jaida Guidry, Kainah Johnson, Cannon Clark, Emery and Lilly Morris. She is survived by two brothers and two sisters; Wayne Rhodes of Waco, Texas, Ronnie Rhodes (Sharon), Cheryl Palmer and Kim McLearen (Curtis) of Gatesville, Texas, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Laddie Gay Howell, her parents, a daughter in law, Susan Davis Howell, and a few special aunts and friends. Pallbearers will be Greg and Gary Howell, Karlton and John William Methvin, Cody and Matson Nelson, Joshua Howell, Brett Mayeaux, Donny Whitehead, Ronald Holland and Thomas Dunagan. Her physical pain is now gone, and we take great comfort in that and believe we will be with her in eternity. Services will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2022. Visitation from 9-11 a.m. and funeral at 11 a.m. Burial will be at New Cedron Missionary Baptist Church in Vowells Mill. Bro. Bruce Mitchell and Bro. Jay Begbie will be the officiants. We would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Louisiana Extended Care Hospital for their wonderful care during her stay. We could not have asked for better care. We would like to thank a very special friend, Carolyn Carpenter, who she loved like one of her own. In lieu of flowers, although she loved flowers, she requested that a donation be made to Toledo Bend Baptist Resort Ministries or a charity near and dear to you.
