Joy F. Nelson

A memorial service to honor the life of Mrs. Joy F. Nelson will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, July 23, 2023 at Beulah Methodist Church in Marthaville, LA.

Joy was born on September 30, 1933 to Talmedge Durr and Rosie Byrd Durr in Marthaville, LA.  She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Gloria Harris; and a brother, N.B. “Junior” Durr. 

She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Jacky Nelson of Natchitoches; a son, David Nelson and wife Donna of Natchitoches; daughters, Vickie Nelson of Natchitoches and Jackie Nelson Arthur and husband Rodney of Stonewall; a sister, Bonnie Montpelier and husband Charlie of Marthaville; grandchildren, Madisyn Maggio, Cayden maggio, Kelli Arthur Maggio and husband Drew, Kayla Arthur Terrell and husband Dane, William Terrell, Sydney Terrell, Sarah Beth Terrell, Caroline Terrell, Ashley Arthur Laird and husband John, Michael G. Pleasant, Sean R. Hendry, Brittany Williams, Brittainey Churchman, Lauren Nelson; and great grandchildren, Ashley Louanne Hendry, Nicole Williams, Declan Thaxton, and Everett Williams.

Joy married her childhood sweetheart, Jacky Nelson on August 20, 1951 and for over 72 years she enjoyed being together as they enjoyed hunting and fishing but especially loved dancing together.  She was a longtime member of Beulah Methodist Church and enjoyed fellowship with her church family.  Joy will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother and will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
