Johnnie B. Vercher (Big Mama)

Johnnie B. Vercher (Big Mama) 85, of Cloutierville passed away on November 19, 2025 at her home. She was born on December 13, 1939 in Campti, La. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, with Bro. Ralph Johnson and Bro. Raymond Weaver officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until time service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Cloutierville Baptist Church cemetery.

Johnnie, after completing nursing school at Huey P. Long Charity Hospital, became a pediatric nurse at Rapides General Hospital for twelve years and worked in the nursery of the Natchitoches Parish Hospital until her retirement. She was a people person and loved her work with babies and children. She always helped out in the community with the sick and elderly.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Mary Carter, along with her sisters, Dorothy, Clara, and Rosemary, and her life long partner of 60 plus years, W.L. Vercher. She is survived by her brothers; Tommy Carter and wife Patsy, Butch Carter and wife Elaine. Her sister Varina Ferguson and husband Kevin, and niece Judy Long. Her daughter Rhonda and husband Ricky Sanders, bonus daughter Urshala and husband Matt Cannon. Grandchildren Bubba Sanders, Samantha Sanders, Elizabeth Sanders, William and wife Lacey Sanders, Madison Cannon, Aubree and Jordan Carter. Great-Grandchildren B.J. Sanders, Nick Sanders, Michael Sanders, Dakota Sanders, Madison Sanders, Piper Sanders, Ricky Dennis and Haven Sanders, Rayleigh Warren, Hayden Harris, Jaylen, Alexander, and Ryland Nugent. Great-great Grandchildren Zoey, Amarilla, and Paisley.

Pallbearers for the service will include Michael and Dakota Sanders, Matt Cannon, Brett Nugent, Ryland Nugent, and Raymond Weaver. Honorary pallbearers will be Rickey Coe and Jimmy Phillips.
