John Maggio flew to heaven on the wings of an angel on March 19, 2024. Born June 24, 1933, in Natchitoches, LA- John Alphonse Maggio was the 11th child of Sam and Carmelite Maggio and the baby of their close-knit Catholic, Italian family, John was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy. He served in the Army National Guard as a Master Sergeant. In 1954, he married Billie Norsworthy and together they had four children. John was an Installation Repair Technician (IRT) with South Central Bell for 42 years. He also owned and managed Maggio Brothers Package Store for 35 years. John was a member of Woodman of the World, Knights of Columbus and a lifetime member of Pioneers of America. John was a faithful member of Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Church. John loved the outdoors and was so creative and artistic. His imagination was limitless, and it was set in “concrete”. John never met a stranger, his personality was magnetic and was a keen storyteller of his endless memories and life experiences.
John was preceded in death by his parents Sam and Carmelite, his siblings Rosalie, Joe, Charlie, Ned, Jeanette, Mary, Sadie, Grace (Sister Ann Carmel) and Theresa. He is survived by his wife Billie and brother Henry (Buddy), his children- Susan Maggio Ewing (Surrey) of Montgomery, TX, Rhonda Maggio of Montgomery, TX, John Maggio, Jr, and Phillip Maggio. Grandchildren- Landon Ewing, Lance Ewing (Stephanie), Laura Maggio DeLoach (Josh), and Katie Maggio, and Great-Grandchildren Kylie Ewing and Isla DeLoach.
Visitation will be Friday, March 22, 2024, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 11:30 am at Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and he will be laid to rest at Memory Lawn Cemetery, Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Landon Ewing, Lance Ewing, Henry Maggio, Jr., Chris Maggio, David Hadden, and Brandon Mayeaux. Honorary Pallbearers will be Don Dark Jr., Sam Roy Fulco, Jimmy Gunter, and Johnny Dark.
He left this earth a better, more beautiful place for everyone. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
