John A. "Yonie" Masson

A service to honor the life of Mr. John Allen Masson will be held at 10 am Friday, December 10, 2021 in the chapel of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home with Nettles Brown officiating. He will be laid to rest at Cloutierville Cemetery in Cloutierville, LA. The family will receive friends from 5 pm until 8 pm on Thursday, December 9th at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home. Those honored to serve as pallbearers include H. Vincent Maggio III, Samuel A. Maggio, Joseph H. Maggio, John Daniel Masson, Jackson A. Masson, Hunter Masson, Joseph Matt and Derrit Matt. Honorary pallbearers will be Clyde H. Masson, III (Trey), William Masson, Patrick Masson, Stephen Masson, and Darrell Basco. John A. Masson, known to all as Yonie, passed away on December 7, 2021. He was born on August 2, 1947 to Clyde “Tootie” H. Masson, Sr. and Emma Richter Masson in Natchitoches, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Samuel A. Masson. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 53 years, Donna Martin Masson; daughter, Janna Maggio and husband Henry; son, Jeff Masson and wife Monica; grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Maggio, H. Vincent Maggio, III and wife Elizabeth, Samuel A. Maggio, Joseph H. Maggio, John Daniel Masson, Jackson A. Masson, and Laruen Jane Masson; a brother, Clyde H. Masson, Jr.; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Yonie was a life-long resident of Cloutierville, LA. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam War Veteran. While fulfilling his duty, he received 2 Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star for his heroic service to his country. He always remained very close to his service brothers by being very active in the American Legion Post 10, the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 1962, and a yearly reunion with the 1/52 Infantry Battalion of the 198th Light Infantry Brigade, Americal Division. Everyone that knew Yonie, knew of his quick wit, his skill to tell a story, his knack for timely played practical jokes, and his unwavering ability to speak what was on his mind regardless of his audience. He proudly served his community during his life in various roles including; as a solider, volunteer firefighter, a member of the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Posse, and holding offices in the American Legion and VFW. During his life, he held many occupations, including as an electrician, refrigerant specialist, cattleman, farmer, and small business owner. He was a faithful parishioner of Weaver United Methodist Church in Flora, LA and enjoyed fellowship and worship with his church family. Although he stayed extremely busy, he always made time for his family. He will truly be missed by the love of his life, wife and best friend, Donna; his children; that he was so very proud of their accomplishments and the joy of his world being a grandfather to seven.
