Joe Mitchell, Jr. better known as "Junior" and he was 1 of a kind, his wife used to say God broke the mold when he made him. Junior was a man with such a kind and giving heart, he would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. Yet he could also be stubborn, his phrase he used was "My way or the highway ". He loved to Fish and collect antique cars & trucks to restore them, he especially loved his grandkids, nieces, and nephews. Always pulling them into his lap to tell them stories, his imagination was huge, and he could make up some crazy stories from having a rabbit in his pocket to a huge, one eyed big foot monster that ran by his window at his house. Junior also loved to tell stories of his childhood growing up, time would seem to stand still when he got started with those. He told about being a prankster always teasing his sisters and making them squeal or him and C.W. playing tricks on his brother Ray. He was definitely a character and loved to tell jokes although on occasion he told the punch line first or out of place, but he loved to make people laugh.
After high school he married his sweetheart Carita, and they traveled the country on the pipeline welding till Tina was 4 and they decided to come back home to stay. He then opened Oak Ridge Egg Farm, and sawmill in Marthaville. Junior got saved on March 10th, 1972, and became the Pastor of Rocky Mount Church in Robeline not long after, He was the Pastor there for almost 30 years. Junior has owned lots of businesses such as a Cattle Farm, Feed Store in Marthaville, Raised and sold dogs, used car lot, furniture store, pallet mill, Convenient Store, auctioneer and was a Police Jury for Natchitoches Parish.
But his last business was Deep South Welding of Marthaville he really loved this one the most, because he ran it with his son Joel.
The family will remember him by his infectious smile and loving hugs, our hearts are empty because he is gone but we have wonderful memories of him, and our loss is heavens gain.
