Jerry L. Sharplin, 83, passed away peacefully at his home on September 25, 2026. He was born on August 28, 1943, in Epps, Louisiana, and devoted his life to family, craftsmanship, and building businesses that strengthened communities across Louisiana.

Jerry married Sandra Mouch Sharplin, his wife of 55 years, who was the center of his life. He is survived by three children: Jay and Lauryn Sharplin of Natchitoches; Kelly Hill of Monroe; and Chris and Chelsey Sharplin of Opelousas. He leaves nine grandchildren: Graycee, Olivia, and Jaxon Hill; Jerry, Christopher, Ryan, and Navy Sharplin; Elizabeth and Sarah Sharplin. He is also survived by his brother and sister‑in‑law, James and Wanda Sharplin, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Jerry spent over 50 years as a contractor, building and operating multiple hotels throughout the state. His work ethic, precision, and dedication helped shape the hospitality landscape of Louisiana for decades.

In his free time, Jerry enjoyed working in his blacksmith shop, creating metal artwork with skill and patience. After multiple strokes made that work impossible, he continued visiting the business daily to ensure everything ran smoothly. In his later years, his greatest devotion was caring for Sandy and spending time with his grandchildren.

Jerry was honorably discharged from the United States Navy so he could return home to care for his ailing parents. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Franklin Sharplin and Rhoda Lee Thompson Sharplin, and by his brothers Leon Sharplin, Larry Sharplin, Thomas Madison “Tom” Sharplin, and Dr. Arthur Daniel Sharplin.

A visitation will be held at Blanchard‑St. Denis Funeral Home prior to a Mass of Christian Burial at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Natchitoches, with interment following at American Cemetery. Time and date will be announced.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to his caregivers Rachal Thompson, Charlene County, and Melinda County; to Dr. Bryan Picou Jr. and his staff; Dr. Erik Castle; Dr. Christopher Ingram; the NRMC Rehabilitation team; and Hospice of Natchitoches for their dedicated care and support over the past several years.

Jerry will be remembered for his steady leadership, quick wit, and the deep love he carried for his family. His legacy lives on in the buildings he raised, the art he forged, and the generations he shaped.
