Janie Margrette Strebeck Doolittle Calvert

June 20, 1929 — October 30, 2023

Janie Margrette Strebeck Doolittle Calvert was born to Lee and Vera Strebeck on June 20, 1929. She passed away on October 30, 2023 at the age of 94 after a long illness. Janie was married to Mines Wesley Doolittle for 49 years before he passed away. Years later she married H. L. Calvert and they were married for over 10 years before he passed away. She is survived by two sons John Lee Doolittle and Michael Wade Doolittle, Michael's wife Sue Miller Doolittle; three grandchildren: Carrie-Anne Doolittle Scidmore and her husband Keith, Michael Wesley Doolittle, and Matthew Wade Doolittle and his wife Stephanie; one great grandchild Matthew Wade Doolittle II; and a host of nieces and nephews she loved as her own.

Janie worked her entire adult life with her first permanent job being at the Trolley Co. in Shreveport until it closed. Then she went to work for Frymaster Corp. in Shreveport as a bookkeeping aide. With just a high school degree she worked her way up the ranks at Frymaster to become the Credit Manager, a position she held for many years until she retired. Subsequently they filled her position with a college graduate.

After retiring she moved back to the Robeline/Marthaville area to be closer to her family. In retirement she was an extremely active individual all the way up until her death. She loved to work in the yard and in the garden. There wasn’t anything she couldn’t do once she set her mind to it, even if it took weeks to accomplish. Some might say she had a stubborn streak but her family called it the Strebeck mentality. Janie was a loving mother who cared deeply for all her family members and will be missed by all.

In addition to her family members, Janie also loved animals of all kinds. She could never say no to a stray animal that showed up at her door. She was an animal whisperer who could make friends with any animal and have them follow her wherever she went.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Matthew Doolittle, Dale Carr, Benny Kilgore, Danny Townsend, Floyd Townsend, and Chris Daniel.  Honorary pallbearers are Michael Wesley Doolittle, Larry Carr, and Ted Youngblood.
