James "J.C" Coutee, Sr.

March 12, 1962 — September 16, 2021

James “JC” Coutee Sr. was born on March 12, 1962 in Derry, LA to Lillie Vee Parker and Lee Ray Coutee and passed away September 16, 2021 with his family at his side. He was a graduate of Gorum High School. He was preceded in death by his father Lee Ray and four angel children. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Gina Colflesh Coutee. Their four children: Jay Coutee (Desirae), Summer Nation (Brandon), Josie Hicks (Josh), and Alexis Coutee. Their grandchildren: Conner and Kinsley Coutee; Madelynn, Natalie, and Olivia Nation; Jolene and Jonah Hicks; and bonus grandchildren Bella and Jackson Wise. His sisters: Marsha Carpenter (Bud), and Dee Alford (Randy). His brothers: John Coutee (Sherry), Tony Coutee, Kenny Coutee (Nanette), Ronald Coutee (Amanda). And many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In his early career, he worked for Union Pacific Railroad where he made some lifelong friendships. He later went on to work for the state of Louisiana and ultimately became a USDA Poultry & Egg Inspector. JC loved to hunt and spend time outdoors. He waited for spring every year to take a week off work and turkey hunt. There wasn’t a place in Kisatchie his feet hadn’t touched. He never met a stranger and could spend hours drinking coffee and visiting. He could tell great stories, and his laugh was contagious. He loved his family more than anything else. He was a fearless, generous, and caring friend to everyone he knew. He would do anything for anyone and was the unofficial mayor of Bayou Cypre creek. Those honored to serve as pall bearers are his son-in-laws Brandon Nation and Josh Hicks along with close friends Charles Boles, Reggie Johnson, Terry Bennett, and Bubba Dunn. Honorary pall bearers are his brothers: John, Tony, Kenny, and Ronald; brother-in-law Bud Carpenter, and nephew Derek Coutee. A service to honor his life will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Bay Springs Baptist Church. The family will receive friends after 5 pm on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at Bay Springs Baptist Church. Flowers can be sent Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, LA or Bay Springs Baptist Church in Chopin, LA.
