Jack had a love for education, he obtained many degrees throughout his life, including a Bachelors degree in Wildlife Management with a minor in Zoology from NSU, a Masters of Science in Biology from NSU, a Masters degree in Engineering from Louisiana Tech and was working on obtaining his Doctorate. He was a devoted husband and father. He loved his wife Jan and cherished his children. Nothing made him happier than his grandchildren. Jack had a passion for nature. He loved plants and the outdoors. He loved sports, most of all basketball. Growing up he was devoted to the sport, and he spent his last years travelling and watching the St. Mary's Tigers play. Alongside, he watched his granddaughters cheer on the sidelines. His joy came from his family and friends. The best way to describe him would have been kind and compassionate. There was never a frown on his face nor negativity around him. Anyone he had encountered would have said what a great man he was. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 55 years, Janis Speaks Speir; his daughter, Heather Creamer and husband Eric; his son, Brent Speir and wife Amanda; his grandchildren, Kadence Creamer, Jaycie Creamer, Brooke Speir, Sean Speir, Blake Speir, and Raven Speir; one great-granddaughter, Kenleigh Davis; his sister, Ruby Hatcher; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Jackie was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Leona Speir; his sisters, Beatrice Quick and Glady Land; and brothers, J. W. Speir and Billy O. Speir. Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Scott Speir, Dale Doine, Matthew Speir, Daniel Speir, Chad Speir, and Bruce Coleman. Honorary pallbearers will be Teddy Speir, Rickey Speir, Gary Elliott, Rob Jordan, and Johnny Ray Smith. The family would like to give a special Thank You to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital for the care they gave to Mr. Jackie.
