Jack Huelin Crowell

January 25, 1985 — December 4, 2022

A service celebrating the life of Jack Huelin Crowell will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2022, at First Baptist Church of Natchitoches with Pastor Tommy Rush officiating. A private graveside service will follow. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home, located at 848 Keyser Ave, Natchitoches, LA 71457. Jack, 37, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2022. He was born Jan. 25, 1985, in Selma, AL to Huelin A. Crowell and Cindy Sherer Crowell. A 2003 graduate of Natchitoches Central High School, Jack was a standout placekicker for the Chiefs football team, garnering All-State, All-Area, All-District, and All-Parish honors over the span of two seasons. He is the school's all-time kick scoring leader. Following graduation, Jack enrolled at Mississippi State University and played football for the Walter Camp Coach of the Year and 3x SWC Coach of the Year, Jackie Sherrill. Jack earned his undergraduate (2007) and graduate (2008) degrees from Mississippi State University and was a dedicated supporter of the Bulldogs. After starting his forestry career, he met the love of his life, Alex Clay, in Oxford, MS. They were compatible beyond words – both full of life, love, and personality. Married in 2014, Jack and Alex would become the nuclear family, welcoming two children, Jackson in 2018 and Elizabeth in 2022. They formed a household of what many of their friends would describe as an “All-American Family”, complete with their friendly and spunky dachshund, Wallace. Jack was deeply committed to the forestry and engineered wood products profession, growing trees and making forest products that improve lives in fundamental ways. A 14-year veteran with Weyerhaeuser, his work ethic, demeanor, and experience were highly coveted. His most recent position with Weyerhaeuser was North Louisiana Area Raw Materials Manager. Jack brightened people’s days with his infectious smile and friendly disposition. He was a charmer, joke-enthusiast, and entertainer that would light up any room with laughter and feel-good vibes. His multitude of friend groups exhibited his wide-ranging personality. He could go from the duck blind to the golf course, to mowing his lawn then to playing backyard ball with his son Jackson all in one day. This doesn’t include organizing his closet and ironing his clothes for the week ahead. Jack was a truly the life of any gathering. He would become your best friend the moment you met him. His love for brotherhood also spilled over to the parents of his friends. Often, parents would seem more interested in any activity if Jack was involved. He was the friend every parent wanted in their child’s life. He was the textbook definition of a true friend. Outdoor activities, such as hunting, fishing, golf, wakeboarding, and skiing, were his pleasures. His greatest passion was for his family, being a devoted husband, father, son, and soon-to-be uncle. Despite this tragic loss, we take comfort in knowing that Jack was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and is in a far better place today. Jack was blessed by such a joyful life filled with fun and laughter, and time spent with treasured family and friends. We will see his enduring spirit and legacy live on through his children as they continue to grow. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Huelin and Edna Crowell; his maternal grandparents, Jack and Ellete Sherer; and his infant brother Andrew Alford Crowell. He is survived by his wife, Alex Clay Crowell; his son, Jackson Crowell; his daughter, Elizabeth Crowell; his parents, Huelin and Cindy Crowell of Pensacola, FL; his sister, Holly Crowell Shaw (Lee) of Fort Worth, TX; his father and mother-in-law, Dennis and Betsy Clay of Memphis, TN; his brother-in-law, Dennis Clay, Jr. (Kirby) of Memphis, TN; and an extended family and many close friends. Pallbearers will be Taylor Barker, Ryan Breedlove, Cole Gentry, Carter Mascagni, Brandon Renicker, and Tommy Watts. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Clay, Jr., Jason Colvin, Jim Daniels, Mark Haller, John Hobson, Derek Lansing, Lee Shaw, Travis Tyler, and Marc Mitchell Wiggins. For anyone considering a memorial gift, contributions can be made to the Love Fund for Alex Crowell and Children. Donations can be made at any BOM location.
