Obituary

Hunter Dixon Tarpley, a beloved father and family man, passed away on October 4, 2026 at the age of 31.

Hunter was born on November 28, 1995 to his parents Richard and Tiffany Tarpley in Shreveport, Louisiana. Throughout his life Hunter always loved three things: God, his family, and helping others. Early in his youth, Hunter proclaimed his love and belief in God at Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church. This belief laid the foundation upon which the desires of his heart were laid.

As a child, he longed for the day he could join his Uncle Bruce, dress in his best button up, and take care of others in their time of need. While many believed it to be a phase, Hunter stayed true to his word and became a funeral director. Working in Sabine, Vernon, and Natchitoches Parishes, one would be hard pressed to find a family he had not helped through one of life’s most difficult moments. His compassion, deep faith, and charming personality were the perfect combination to comfort others and create a lasting impression on their hearts.

While many will remember him through his work legacy, where he truly excelled was loving his family. His children, Anniston and Lawson, were the light of his life. From the time they were born, he found immense joy in his children. Whether it was an impromptu bull riding competition in the living room or a competitive softball game, he was their biggest fan. He was elated to soon welcome his newest son and complete his family with wife Lindsay. Together with her children Logan and Jesse, they were a blended family who showed that family is not defined by blood, but by love.

Taking care of his mom, dad, and sister, Samantha, was a top priority. Rarely did he miss his coffee talk with his mom or an LSU game with his dad and sister. Family trips, holiday traditions, and ending phone calls with love you more were special to him. As they mourn his passing, they find comfort in the love they shared with one another.

Hunter is preceded in death by his grandparents, Janice McCormic Murphy, Bobby Tarpley and Vivian Tarpley, Uncles Casey Murphy and Bruce Tarpley, and cousins Lindsey Ramsey and Ann Marie Murphy.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Lindsey Sullivan Tarpley, daughter Anniston Kate Tarpley, son Lawson Tarpley, their mother Shyla Holten Tarpley and awaiting the arrival of Baby Tarpley, step-children Logan Lyons and Jesse Sullivan, father Richard Tarpley, mother Tiffany Tarpley, sister Samantha Procell (Adam), nieces Avaree and Addie Grace Procell, paternal grandfather James Murphy, Aunts and Uncles Randy and Mary Murphy and Benny and Karen Ramsey, along with a host of cousins and friends.

Those serving as pallbearers will include Adam Procell, Adam Morgan, Caleb Dillard, Jared Alford, Justin Ramsey, Zach Murphy, Garrett Murphy, Lance Gribbin.

Honorary pallbearers include Peyton Fredieu, Caleb Burkett and Auston Bliss.

In honor of LSU’s game day and Hunter’s love for the Tigers, the family encourages all who wish to pay their respects to wear purple and gold.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, October 10, 2026 at Calvary Baptist Church in Many, LA.  The family will receive friends from 11 am until service time at the church.  He will be laid to rest at Pigrim Rest Baptist Church Cemetery near Many, LA.
