Glenn Dale "Sonny" Viola, Sr.

Glenn Dale "Sonny" Viola, Sr., age 82, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026, in Shreveport, Louisiana. Born on January 16, 1944, in Monroe, Louisiana, Sonny’s life was a journey of hard work, creativity, and quiet strength.

A master welder by trade and spirit, Sonny opened his own welding shop—where sparks danced like fireflies and dreams were forged in steel. His connection to the land and water drew him into professional fishing, where patience met passion beneath open skies. He also served as a police officer, offering courage and commitment to the community he called home.

Sonny’s path continued through many chapters: motivational speaker, restaurant owner of The Willows in Natchitoches, and Safety Inspector for Timberman Company in Winnfield and later with a pipeline company. Each role was another note in the melody of a life lived fully.

Nature was his sanctuary—he found solace in hunting at dawn, casting lines into still waters, camping under starlit skies. Music echoed through his days as he played the piano with gentle reverence. He embraced travel with eyes wide to the world’s wonders.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Sue Davis Viola; son Glenn Dale Viola Jr.; daughter Codie Lynn Viola; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and sisters Dot Viola Mims and Pat Viola. Four granddaughters held a special place in his heart—raised by him with both fatherly guidance and grandfatherly warmth.

Sonny now rests beside his beloved son Carl Jason Viola; father Carl Jessie Viola; and mother Matty Lee Holder Viola.

A funeral service celebrating his life will be held on February 6, 2026, at St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., followed by graveside services.
