Glenda Marie Brossette Merrill, 83, of Cloutierville left this world to be welcomed into the arms of the Lord on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2025, after an extended illness.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14, at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches. Services will be held at Blanchard St. Denis on Monday, Sept. 15, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Matthew Pagels officiating. Burial will follow at Cloutierville Baptist Cemetery in Cloutierville.
Glenda was born in Cloutierville on Feb. 3, 1942. She loved attending mass at Monet Ferry and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Cloutierville.She enjoyed music, dancing, playing cards, and visiting casinos. A homemaker most of her life, she was especially happy cooking and being with her family and friends. She loved her children with all she had. Many times she was a faithful caretaker for family members and friends over the years. She loved her dog, Spud, referring to him as “my little boy.”
The family extends their deep gratitude to family and friends who were devoted to Glenda and the family as her vision gradually failed in recent years. Special thanks to her sister, Pat Carter, sister-in-law Faye Smith, niece Janet Guidry, and also to Nelda and Kenny Gallien.Glenda was blessed with two wonderful marriages: she was married to Ross Brossette until his death in 1995, and then was married to Thomas W. Merrill Jr. until his death in 2018.She was also preceded in death by her father, J. W. Smith Sr., her mother, Florentine Spillman Smith, and her brothers J. W. Smith Jr., David Smith and Roger Smith. Left to cherish her memory are children Dennis Brossette and wife Glenda, Terry Brossette and wife Saundra, and Glenda (Blossom) Mason and husband Danny, Thomas Merrill III and wife Donna, Roger Merrill and wife Ann Marie, Brady Merrill and wife Melissa, and Travis Merrill and wife Charlotte; sister Pat Carter and husband Tommy; and sisters-in-law Callie Faye Smith, Dottie Smith and Nancy Smith. She also leaves behind many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Dennis Brossette, Terry Brossette, Travis Brossette, Tommy Carter, Timmy Carter, Kenny Gallien, Bubba Sanders, and Michael Sanders.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Center or the American Cancer Society.
