George Markley, born on April 21, 1949 in South Beliot, IL and passed away on July 29, 2026 at his residence in Natchitoches with his family beside him. His journey through life was marked by profound devotion to family and steadfastness to his values, leaving a legacy deeply cherished by all who knew him.

George was the beloved husband of Gynn Sampey Markley for 51 years, whose partnership and love stood as the cornerstone of their life together. Together, they built a family defined by warmth and mutual respect. George’s affection as a father was unwavering, and he took great pride in his daughters Shatanna Markley Desadier, Tonetta Aucoin, and Lillian Hill; and his son, Jimmy Aucoin. His guidance and wisdom shaped their lives in meaningful ways, offering them support and encouragement throughout all of life’s milestones.

To his grandchildren Hannah Markley Rains, Tristan Custis, Timothy Henry, Taylor Hanks, Timberlan Turner, Meagan Falgout, Jeremy Aucoin, Nicole Meyers, Charlie Desadier, Sarah Thomisee, Scott Poche', Christopher Poche', Amanda Poche' and Dusty Poche' and his 20 great grandchildren, George was a pillar of kindness, patience, and subtle humor. In their company, he found immeasurable joy and fulfillment. He nurtured special bonds with each, always offering a listening ear and gentle advice, imparting values that will endure for generations.

George’s familial ties extended to his loving siblings: sisters Shawn Berendes, Jewel Berendes, and Melody Berendes, and brothers Darrel, Darcy, and Rory Berendes. The strength of these sibling relationships reflected the values instilled in him during childhood and evidenced a lifetime of unwavering support and kinship.

He is predeceased by his father, Lenly George Markley, his mother, Johann Mae King Markley Berendes and 7 siblings, whose influence continued to shape the man George became—a man of character, humility, and integrity.

Family, community, and service formed the bedrock of George’s life. He proudly served in the United States Army, where his training in heavy equipment operation led him to his career choice. He worked for many years as a crane operator. When he set his mind to accomplishing any task, there wasn’t anything he couldn’t do or fix. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his garden. He was known for his quiet generosity, his steadfast presence, and his deep love of family. His legacy will be remembered not only in deeds, but in the countless memories and the lives he touched along the way. Those fortunate enough to know him, whether family, friend, or neighbor, will recall George as a compassionate man, whose life’s true success was found in the happiness and well-being of his loved ones.

Relatives and friends are invited to honor George’s memory at a visitation on August 3, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home, located at 848 Keyser Ave, Natchitoches, LA 71457. A funeral service will follow at the same location at 12:00 PM. George will be laid to rest at United Baptist Cemetery, formerly L.C. Weaver Memorial Cemetery, on Cloud Crossing Rd, Campti, LA 71411.
