George David Lewis

George David Lewis, born on January 18, 1954, in Portsmouth, Norfolk, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his residence in Kisatchie, Louisiana, on May 23, 2025. He was a dedicated educator whose influence extended across many high schools throughout the state of Louisiana. George taught mathematics and passionately coached football and track & field, leaving a profound impact on countless students and athletes. His commitment to education culminated in his role as principal at Simpson High School in Vernon Parish. He also shared his knowledge as an adjunct professor at Northwestern State University, where he earned a Master’s +30 degree in education.

In addition to his role as an educator, George was deeply involved in his community and was particularly proud of his membership with the Gideon's International in the Natchitoches and Red River area. Distributing Bibles to those in need was not just a duty for him but a source of great pride, reflecting his commitment to service and faith.

George is survived by his beloved wife, Janice Taylor-Lewis; his mother, Mildred Jordan Lewis; daughters, Claudia Landry of Kingsland, Texas, and Sarah L. Burdeaux of Sterlington, Louisiana; and step-sons Michael J. Taylor and wife Amber of Ringgold, Louisiana, and Joel B. Taylor and wife DeeAnn of Simpson, Louisiana. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, who affectionately called him Pop-Pops: Eric Hadley, Charlotte Landry, Joseph Landry, James E. Taylor and wife Gayle, Karrie Taylor, Hailey Taylor, Chase Taylor, Ava Taylor, Anna Grace Taylor, Emma Taylor and Ethan Burdeaux; along with his great granddaughter, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Taylor. He is also survived by two sisters Phyllis Taylor and husband Gary of Pineville and Rachel Bush of Dyersburg, TN. As well as numerous nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.

George was preceded in death by his father, George Eubanks Lewis; and his siblings, Daniel I. Lewis and Paula K. Lewis.

A service to honor his life will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home with Bro. Wayne Chance and Bro. Ralph Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Kisatchie, LA. The family will receive friends from 9:30 at until service time at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home. Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Michael Taylor, Joel Taylor, Chase Taylor, Marion Dodd, James Taylor and Pat Dowden.

His family and friends will forever cherish his memory and the lasting impact he made in their lives and the lives of others.
