Ernest Alanson Rains (Slick) born to J.B. And Faye Rains December 23, 1957, in Marthaville, Louisiana, Ernest Rains, affectionately known as Slick, peacefully entered eternal rest on November 8, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Slick was a devoted son and brother. His devotion and generosity to the family he was born into was unmatched. From a lanky teenager riding a bike while dragging a push mower to earn a dollar, to years spent overseas in the oil and gas industry. If his family was in need and he had.. then they had. No questions asked. No loans. Just support. Financial and otherwise. He adored his niece and nephews. And any of their accomplishments (good or bad), Slick was right there clapping the loudest. Slick was dapper. Always stylishly dressed. From his days as the ladies man, two stepping across the dance floor at Bodacious in that black felt hat, to those behind a pulpit. When Slick gave his life to the Lord, he did so whole heartedly. As pastor of Anthony Baptist Church, he loved the Lord and his fellow man through service. Slick was non judgmental. He always understood that he was called to love and serve. Not to judge. And if that meant officiating a marriage ceremony or comforting a family during a loss or even mowing members of the communities lawn when sickness or death showed up. He loved through service. As Slick began to have health issues the family "babied" him. So much so, that they jokingly called him "The Baby”. There was nothing derogatory in this nickname. It was a term of endearment. As much as he loved them.. they loved him right back. To love and to be loved.. that’s a life you can hang your hat on!
Ernest is preceded in death by his father, J.B. Rains, his mother, Faye Rains, and his nephew, Brandon Wade Clark. He is survived by his sister, Mary Tatumhusband James Tatum of Marthaville, Louisiana. His brother, Bill Rains wife Ronda Rains, also of Marthaville. Although Slick didn’t have any children, he loved his niece and nephews as his own. They are Jeremy Rains wife Harlei, Shelby Downs husband Kenneth, Josh Clark wife Amanda. Great Nieces and Nephews Jayce, Bella, Autumn, Jesse, Wes, and Garrett.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Bill Rains, Jeremy Rains, Jayce Rains, James Tatum, Josh Clark, and Chris Neugent. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Freeman, Jesse Clark, Wes Rains, and Kenneth and Garrett Downs.
