E.E. “Red” Colston, age 96 of Provencal, Louisiana entered his eternal home on Thursday, September 12, 2024.
Red was born on July 22, 1928, in Vowells Mill, Louisiana to Lonise Colston and Edna Self. He served his country proudly as a member of the United States Army. Red retired from Boise Cascade in Fisher Louisiana and was a member of Bellwood Baptist Church.
Red was a talker and would tell it like it was whether you wanted to hear it or not. He had a dry sense of humor and was a master of asking questions. Red Colston was never wrong about anything, or so he would tell you. Even at the age of ninety-six his mind was sharp as a tack, and he did not forget anything. He loved talking to anyone who would listen, he might not have heard a word you said to him, but he was going to nod and say “Yeah.” He was a hard worker all his life, even into his nineties you could find him in his shop welding on something. He was our superman in overalls. He would never turn down a trip to go eat some good fried fish. He was a character and lived a great life and will be missed by many.
Red was proceeded in death by his wife of 74 years, Argie V Colston. His parents and three brothers, L.R. “Punk” Colston Jr, Billy G. Knippers, and Richard “Dink” Colston.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children Rhonda Dupree (Randy), Paul Colston (Ann), and DeWayne Colston (Kim). Grandchildren Brandi McManus (David), Jarred Dupree (Jenny), Stephanie Colston, Ryan Villemarette, Peyton Creed and Trae Creed. His great grandchildren who called him “Doc” are Ryder (Elise), Macy, Baylee, Gretchyn, Jarrett, Kinsley, Marleigh and Tatum. His great- great grandchildren Jaxon, Chloe, and Cashton; one sister, Betty Drury as well as numerous extended family and friends. Whether he was called Daddy, Papaw, Doc or Red, to know him was to love him. We will “Check you later Doc.”
Family will receive friends at Bellwood Baptist Church on Sunday, September 15, 2024, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services to honor his life well lived will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 16, 2024, at Bellwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Roger Matkin officiating. Interment will follow at Provencal Cemetery with a follow-on reception at Provencal Baptist Church.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jarred, Ryder and David and his nephews, Dennis, Kenny, and Danny.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the care and compassion provided by Hospice of Natchitoches, Heavenly Blessings, and a special caregiver Courtney. May God bless each of you in a special way.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Bellwood Baptist Church - Operation Christmas Child in his memory.
