Ed Evans

June 5, 1952 — September 4, 2024

Natchitoches

Edward Evans passed away after a brief illness on the evening of September 3, 2024.

Ed, son of the late William Archer Evans and Virginia Evans, was born June 5, 1952 in Atlanta, GA. He grew up in the suburbs of Atlanta and then in Greensboro, GA. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1972 where he served as a hospital corpsman for four years. The Navy set him on his vocational path which guided him his whole career as an athletic trainer. This vocational calling along with his Christian faith defined who he was as a man and the love that he showed others.

Ed is survived by his wife, Christina Evans, and three children Jonathan, David, and Timothy. Ed met Chris while stationed in the Washington, DC area while in the Navy. They fell in love and were married nine months later and had a loving marriage of 49 years before Ed’s passing.

Ed and Chris moved to Natchitoches in 1979 where Ed obtained a master’s in physical education. Ed was first an athletic trainer at Natchitoches Central High School and then became the head athletic trainer at Northwestern State University where he worked for twenty-three years. Ed and Chris made a home here in Natchitoches, and Ed leaves an outsized presence behind. He was always quick with a joke and a laugh. He was willing to help at a moment’s notice to just about anyone who needed it. Ed had a big heart and shared it with those he loved.

His life will be forever cherished by his wife, children, and grandchildren as well as the many friends and other family in his life.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Natchitoches on October 5, 2024. Visitation will be from noon to 1pm with a service at 1pm and a reception following. Gifts can be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Natchitoches, 114, Bienville St.
