Doris Bennett Garlington

Services for Mrs. Doris Garlington will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at 10:00 am at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Russell Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home. Doris Bennett Garlington joined Heaven’s Choir on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at the age of 89. She was born March 26, 1933 to Ellie and Esther Bennett in Montrose, LA. She is preceeded in death by her husband Wilton Garlington, her parents Ellie and Esther Bennett, one brother Ellie Ray Bennett, three sisters Minnie Rougeot, Evelyn Buzzetta and Francis Bennett, and one son Warren (Buck) Garlington. Those left behind to cherish her memory includes five daughters and five sons, Doris Ann Ward and Romaine McDaniel of Conway, AR., Patricia Ann Nicholas of Flora, LA., Darlene (Steve) Brewton of Winnfield, LA., and Melba Marlene Posey of Cloutierville, LA., DWayne (Meredith) Garlington, Charles Garlington, David Dean (Michelle) Garlington, Bobby Ray (Stacy) Garlington all of Natchitoches, LA., James Ellie (Sandra) Garlington of Bennettsville, SC. She was blessed with 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. In addition, she also leaves behind five brothers and four sisters, Beryl (Evelyn) Bennett, Lester (Emogene) Bennett of Natchitoches, LA., Zip (Sandy) Bennett of Flora, LA., Cecil (Carol) Bennett of Pierre Part, LA., Richard (Lisa) Meylain of Coushatta, LA., Dixie (Jimmy) Talmadge, Catherine (Billy) LaCaze, Linda Sue Rachal and Mary Lou Rachal all of Natchitoches, LA. She was loved by a host of nieces and nephews and will be missed by many close friends. She enjoyed meeting people and worked as a waitress most of her life. She loved dressing up and accessorizing with her big earrings, necklaces and bracelets. Her door was always open to anyone who wanted to stop by and eat. If you were not hungry then you needed to fix a to-go plate to eat later. From the second week of November until the end of December she was busy making meat pies, tamales, fruit cakes, Martha Washington candy, divinity, and fudge for anyone that wanted it. Those serving as pallbearers include Zip Bennett, Terry Bennett, Tony Bennett, Brody Garlington, Justin Fredieu, Charles (Bear) McDaniel, Jonathon Brewton and Joey Bennett.
