David Windel Youngblood was born on January 3, 1941, in Powhatan, Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana, to Elmer Ray Youngblood and Rosa L. King Youngblood.

Upon joining the United States Army in 1959, David embarked on his life journey. While stationed in Alabama, he met his future wife, Mary Katherine Unger. The two of them shared a life together for 63 years before her passing in August 2023.

Along the way, this couple welcomed a daughter in Alaska and a son in Texas. After 20 years of military life and traveling the world, including two tours of duty during the Vietnam War, David and Mary settled in Natchitoches, Louisiana, in 1977, where he had a positive impact on the lives of others. He utilized the skills he acquired in the Army to fly helicopters offshore in the Gulf for many years before pursuing another career in nursing. He also served as the Coroner of Natchitoches Parish. During his retirement years, David and Mary enjoyed traveling, frequently visiting Branson and Mary's family in Indiana. David always sought to share the knowledge he gained from his various endeavors with as many people as possible.

He is survived by his sister Evelyn Carnahan, his daughter Mary Northcutt and her husband Dennis of Natchitoches, his son James Youngblood and his wife Carolyn of Nacogdoches, Texas, his grandchildren Dennis Northcutt Jr. and his wife Karen of Many, David Northcutt of Natchitoches, Erich Johnson and his wife Diane of Selmon City, Texas, Andrew Youngblood, Sara Youngblood and her husband Mickel Shearer, and Susan Youngblood, all of Elkhart, Indiana.
