Daniel Theadore (“Dan”) Broderick passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 22, 2026 after a sudden brief illness. He was born in New Orleans, LA on October 8, 1934 to Ernest J. and Olivia Coke Broderick. He attended Alcee’ Fortier High School in New Orleans, LA and married Janice Anne “Jan” Wadsworth on December 22, 1951. 

He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and retired as a Senior Master Sargeant in 1971. He, Jan and their children traveled the world throughout his 20 years of service being stationed in Fort Worth, TX; Biloxi, MS; Taipei, Taiwan; Aurora, Colorado; and Naha, Okinawa before retiring at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, LA. He began a second career with the Louisiana State Department of Labor in 1972 which led them to Natchitoches, LA. He served as the head of the Employment Security Office in Natchitoches until his retirement in 1993. He earned his high school equivalency while in the U.S. Air Force and went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Government Management from Northwestern State University while serving the Louisiana State Department of Labor. 

Dan and Jan were members of First United Methodist Church in Natchitoches, LA. He served in the Lions Club and enjoyed earning his private pilot’s license. After his retirement from two careers, he and Jan continued their love of travel by reconnecting with lifelong friends as they caravaned together in their motorhomes enjoying the beaches along the Gulf of Mexico and various vacation sites throughout Louisiana, Texas, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi. 

Dan was a devoted husband to Jan until her death in 2020 and was ready to join her again in the afterlife. He was a gentleman, he was honest and always concerned about his family. He had a charming Irish wit and was a little mischievous. He always had a ready smile and a twinkle in his eye. 

He is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years: Janice Anne “Jan” Broderick, his parents and four siblings and his son-in-law, Joe Klein. 

Left to cherish his memory are his four children: Daniel James Broderick of Hall Summit, LA; Rev. Lindy Broderick of Shreveport, LA; Karen Blocker and husband Howard of Spring, TX and Dorothy Klein of Tomball, TX. He is survived by five grandchildren: Vicki Risinger and husband Aaron of Spring, TX; Allison Murray and husband Mickey of Spring, TX; Travis Blocker of Spring, TX; Katie Klein of Tomball, TX and Becky Klein, Tomball, TX. He also leaves a lasting legacy in his six great-grandchildren: Caleb, Asher and Hayden Risinger and Charlotte, Isla and Logan Murray. 

The family extends grateful thanks to the staff at Natchitoches Community Care Center who loved “Mr. Daniel” as their own for the time he spent as a resident there. Their attention, care and support gave him such a good quality of life and extended our time with him.
