Bryan Taft Smith, III

October 29, 1952 — July 23, 2023

Marthaville

B.T. was born in Winnsboro, Louisiana on October 29, 1952 to Bryan Taft Smith, Jr. and Louise Smith. He passed away suddenly on July 23, 2023 at his home in Marthaville, Louisiana.

B.T. studied at Northwestern State University where he majored in Psychology, he served in the United States Marine Corp, and he worked in the oil field for a period. Ultimately, he chose to stay home and run Bry-Lou Farms with his mother and father. He was dedicated to any work he had and taught his children great work ethics along the way. Any spare time he could get, he
enjoyed riding his motorcycle, teaching his grandchildren new things and visiting with his neighbors and friends. He always said that his greatest accomplishment in life was raising his children.

B.T. was known for many different things, but most famously for his looks and his intelligence.  Once you got passed that head full of hair, you learned that he had a kind soul and a personality that would capture your friendship. In his later years he remained dedicated to his community through water well servicing, caring for Beulah Cemetery and generally helping anyone who needed help with anything. B.T. was a jack of all trades and was full of knowledge. He would share all of his knowledge with you if you would just sit and listen. If you knew B.T., then you knew he was up for a good story, especially if he was telling it.

In lieu of a traditional funeral, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 29th , at Beulah Methodist Church in Marthaville. The family will receive visitors beginning at 1 pm and a small service will be held at 2 pm. Everyone is invited to come and share in his memory.

B.T. was preceded in death by his father, Bryan Taft Smith, Jr., his son, Bryan Taft “Quadro” Smith, IV, and his grandson, Abram Smith. Left to cherish his memory are his Mother, Louise Smith of Marthaville, his son, Lucas “Luke” Smith and wife Crystal of Marthaville, his daughters, Athena Jane Smith and fiancé Nicholas Franklin of Natchitoches and April Werner and husband Ryan of Dry Prong, Louisiana, his grandchildren, Trey, Erin, Bryleigh, Ava, Nicholas, Elias, Julianne, his brothers, Deric Smith and wife Tammy of Natchitoches, Louisiana, Bruce Smith of Tyler, Texas, and his life long-friend, Henri Janiece Adkins, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
