Bonnie Sue Cantrell

November 2, 1938 — November 20, 2024

Natchitoches

A graveside service in remembrance of Bonnie Sue Winn Cantrell will take place on Saturday, November 23rd, at 10:00am at Beulah Cemetery in Marthaville. Family will receive friends on Friday, November 22nd from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches.

Bonnie Sue was a dear sister, Mama, Mother, Yaya, and friend. She loved to laugh and tell stories from the good ole days of growing up in Marthaville. Even in these tough last few years, she would belly laugh recounting the escapades of the classmates from Marthaville High School Class of 1956, who were all so special to her.

After high school, Bonnie Sue (and don’t dare call her Bonnie!) briefly attended Northwestern State University and liked to brag about the A she got in Dancing Class. She later moved to Shreveport and worked at the telephone company, before moving back to Marthaville in 1977.

She was involved in her kids’ schools and activities, Marthaville First Baptist Church, and the Eastern Star in Natchitoches. After 25 years in the Jewelry Department at Wal-Mart, she retired when her first grandchild was born.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tallie Winn and Ella Byles Winn Johnston Gibson, and brother-in-law, Roy Bush Bridges. She is survived by her sister, Judy Winn Bridges of Shreveport, son Jody Winn Cantrell (Tanya) of Marthaville, daughter Jill Winn Cantrell Morrison (Dave) of Dallas, TX, and grandchildren Madelyn Winn Morrison and Nicholas Winn Morrison. Survivors also include nephew R.B. Bridges (Kris) of Tampa, FL, niece Ella Vories Bridges Roos (Kenny) of Shreveport, great nephew Shep Roos, great nieces McCartney and Ann Turner Bridges, and a host of cousins.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are R.B. Bridges, Kenny Roos, Shep Roos, Hal Birdwell, and Doug Ireland. Close family friend, Bro. Tommy Jenkins will officiate the service.

The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Community Care of Natchitoches, who treated Bonnie Sue with such kindness, patience, grace, and a fantastic sense of humor.

If you spoke with Bonnie Sue for more than a minute, you knew she was incredibly proud to be from Marthaville and loved the community deeply. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the NSU Foundation Marthaville Winn Family Scholarship, 535 University Parkway, Natchitoches, LA 71497, or northwesternstatealumni.com/marthaville-scholarship.
