B.F. Greene

May 2, 1929 — April 13, 2021

B.F. Greene was raised in a large dog-trot house in the country outside of Summerfield. The house had no insulation and he said, “it was windier inside the house, than out”. He was happiest when he was holding a fishing pole or had a dog by his side. He loved to mow his own yard and the yards of others in the community- the same community that seasonally benefited from his big garden including an overabundance of tomatoes. He attended Summerfield High School where he played basketball and was on the boxing team. He started his bridge building career with T.L. James upon his graduation in 1948. He met and married Willa Brown in 1949 and soon thereafter went to work with Allen Brothers Construction, a company he stayed with for 40 years. He completed his career with K&M Construction in Natchitoches. Upon his retirement, he volunteered at Magnolia Steel in Hagewood. His last job was being a caretaker for his wife, Willa. Full of Irish wit, he always joked that B.F. stood for Bull Frog when in reality the initials stood for Beauregard Franklin. He loved to read, and read stories to all his children until they could read on their own. His youngest daughter remembers him reading to her from Field & Stream magazine. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Felton and Dossie Greene of Summerfield; his wife of 70 years, Willa Brown Greene; his daughter, Rhenda Cedars of Natchitoches; his brother, Truman Greene of Pittsburg, TX; and his sisters, LaVerne Gray of Bernice and Elizabeth Deason of Mamou. He is survived by his son Jason Greene and wife Jennifer of Jonesboro, AR; his daughters, Donna Greene and Denise Bailey both of Natchitoches; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great- grandchildren. He was the favorite uncle to many of his nieces and nephews. Words cannot adequately express our gratitude to the Courtyard for the excellent care provided to him for the past 2 years, especially for their diligence in adhering to safety measures during the pandemic. A service to honor his life will be held at 2pm Sunday, April 18, 2021 at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home with Bro. Ralph Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Coldwater Baptist Church Cemetery in Hagewood, LA. The family will receive friends from 1 pm until service time on the 18th at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home. Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Chad Ross, Brian Cedars, Tyler Cedars, Rocky Carney, Jason Riley, and Rock Carney. Honorary pallbearer will be Wayne Harris.
